1923 - 2008

In 1971, long before being green became the thing to do, long before the consciousness of conserving our rivers, our forest and our animals became something we knew we had to do in order for the world to be a better place - while I was still in my late teens in London  - I remember listening to this song. What I remembered most was the sadness conveyed by the singer in his words and the way he delivered the song. The singer was Hurricane Smith and the song ‘Don’t let it die’. Give me five minutes of your time and listen to this song –it will move you – I promise.

The mountainside, the flower grows

The riverside where the water flows forever

The jungle life of mystery

The wide and graceful history of life

Don't let it die

Don't let it die

The tiger's free, the kangaroo

It's up to me and up to you

What we see is what we choose

What we keep or what we lose forever

The world is ours to tear apart

But what if it's too late to start again?

Don't let it die

Don't let it die

Or say good-bye - amen

Don't let it die

Don't let it die

Or say good-bye in the end

  1. This brings back old memories - listening to him sing these words. A beautiful song, and so relevant to this day.

Thank you for the stroll down memory lane :)

  2. This is my first introduction to Hurricane Smith. You are right - it's a wonderful and moving song and it is sung with just the right touch of appeal. Thanks.
