KUALA LUMPUR: The controversial purchase of a property in
Australia by a Mara subsidiary was approved by the National Economic
Council (NEC) chaired by the Prime Minister Najib Razak.
In a press conference here at Mara headquarters, Mara chairman Annuar Musa said that any purchase by Mara's subsidiaries must go through process of clearing starting from Mara, Rural and Regional Development Ministry before it was presented by the NEC under the Ministry of Finance.
Although Annuar was adamant that the deal was done according to procedure, he however said that Mara was not aware that, its subsidiary Mara Inc Sdn Bhd overpaid by RM13.7 million to buy Dudley International House, an apartment block in Melbourne.
"This deal started in 2012 and was approved by Mara Inc by the end of 2012 before presented to Mara council and brought to the approval of Rural and Regional Development Ministry and finally brought to the Economic Council chaired by the prime minister before the deal was approved," Annuar said.
Annuar also confirmed that the deal was signed off by Najib when pressed by reporters.
Late last night, Najib gave his assurance that claims of corruption involving several Malaysian individuals regarding purchase of property in Melbourne, Australia, will be thoroughly investigated.
"The authorities here will conduct comprehensive investiagtions into the claims, and if any wrongdoing is found, action will be taken," he said in a statement on his Facebook and Twitter sites.

Sounds familiar? From the investigation of Teoh Beng Hock's death to 1MDB Najib promises there will be an investigation and the guilty will be punished! Huh! If you believe him then you also believe that the Chinese are working to take over from the Malays and the Christians are converting Muslims left and right!
