Intellectual process of choice between BN and PR or why the people voted for Pakatan Rakyat

Much has been done to try and understand from where the vote of confidence given by the people of Malaysia to Pakatan Rakyat in the 12th General Election in 2008 came from. And much has been said about the shift in loyalty from BN to PR but let us look at this reality.

The numbers of those who have traditionally voted for DAP before 2008 have numerically been small. Enough to win DAP a few constituencies but never a State!

Those with PAS might enable them to give BN a fight in Trengganu but it would not be a sure thing. Only Kelantan is PAS dulu, kini and maybe selama lama nya!

PKR has not been around long enough to have any claims to a proven vote base that they could depended upon. It is still to be seen if those that voted for PKR in the 12th general election will vote PKR again this time around. Lembah Pantai is already on shaky ground even as we speak!

What have made the difference in the 2008 elections were those voters who chose to vote for Pakatan Rakyat through an intellectual process – all it means is that the majority of Malaysian voters made a conscious effort to understand the issues and choices available to them when they voted for Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat. In the main, intellect not race or religion decided the outcome of the 12th general elections and BN lost big time!

Some thought it essential and reasonable to vote PaKatan Rakyat because Barisan Nasional needed to be taught a lesson in humility in order for them stop endemic corruption and the arrogance of power that defined the UMNO’s led Barisan Nasional. 

Some wanted to see a strong and effective opposition to keep those in government honest.

And some wanted change and Pakatan Rakyat promised that change.

But all these votes were given conditionally – conditionally to their reasons for voting becoming a reality!

If Barisan Nasional did learn a lesson from their losses at the 12th general election these “intellectuals” might go back to voting for Barisan Nasional.

If they see that an effective opposition has been  good for the country then they will again vote to ensure a strong opposition – be it BN or PR.

If the change Pakatan Rakyat promised did happen, then they will vote again for Pakatan Rakyat!

So this is why I say that the votes taken from Barisan Nasional and given to Pakatan Rakyat in 2008 were conditional.

UMNO did instituted change within our economy and our society but the changes they made were largely for the interest of UMNO and Barisan Nasional not for the people. However in making these changes UMNO inadvertently reinvented the Malays and the non-Malays. Reinvented them in the way they think and they way they look at each other.

For a start the Malay Intellectuals were indignant at that manner in which the Malays and the non-Malays were being treated – and they were sufficiently committed and passionate about this to do something about it!

They started by discussing this amongst themselves; amongst their non-Malay friends and very soon race and inequality were no longer a taboo subject banned from open discussion by the ISA. The catalyst that enabled these discussions to spread to all Malaysian was the Internet. Now any one and every one could self publish their thoughts and their take on this once forbidden subject. And we must not forget the role Petra and other bloggers contributed to the dynamism of this new medium that enabled us all to participate in these discussions. And this is still in evidence today as the Internet is still the platform of choice to vent our frustrations and passions on these matters

And the Malay intellectuals soon realized that their non-Malay counterparts were as indignant as they were in these matter. And in these beginnings was the epicentre of the earthquake that caused the tsunami that overwhelmed Barisan Nasional at the 12th general elections.

UMNO failed to keep up with the change mentality of Malaysians and in failing to do so sounded their death knell! UMNO hears but no longer listens to the voices of the people…and for this they paid a very high price – lost votes. Nobody in UMNO had the character, the leadership or the intelligence to understand this reality and tell UMNO that it was out of touch with the new psyche of these Malaysians back in 2008!

The Malays numerical superiority can no longer be depended upon to support UMNO unconditionally.The question now for the 13th general elections is whom will these transient intellectuals vote for this time around – and for what reason? What we are all agreed on is that neither BN nor PR has control over how they will vote.

Just as these intellectuals were critical of what Barisan Nasional leaders have failed to do while in government, they too are now critical of what Pakatan Rakyat has failed to do since 2008.

And this is what BN and PR leaders must ask of themselves. Who amongst them have failed to do this?

Can we believe that what Najib have done since he became Prime Minister has been for the country and not for himself and the political interest of UMNO and BN?

As Minister of Defence did Najib put the interest of our country first in the purchase of the Scorpene Submarines or did he put the interest of his crony Razak Baginda ahead of all other considerations?

As DPM did Najib put the interest of our country first when he engineered the take over of Perak? He did it not through the ballot box but through the use of money, coercion and deceit. All questionably legal and certainly not in the interest of our country.

And as PM was not his decision to descend into gutter politics to neutralize his political nemesis something our country could do without?

Najib had been tried and tested many times and each time he has put the interest of self and party before country.

Anwar had fared no better. I do not intend to go further into this other then to say that his political self has always been his first priority.

Even as we are discussing the pros and cons of having either of them as leaders attention is already upon the question as to who will be their successor? But this is an issue to be addressed by their respective peers. We can propose, they dispose!

The people who have made that difference in the 12th general election are now asking themselves what they must do at the 13th general election?

You read what I write about Anwar, about Azmin, about PKR and you conclude that I am now with UMNO! They read what I write and they will form their own conclusion as to the credibility of what I post on steadyaku47. Whether I am with UMNO or not is not their concern. What matters are the facts and line of reasoning that I use – plausible or not? 
And who are they? They are the voters who will vote with their hearts, their minds and their hopes for a better Malaysia for all of us. They know what Najib do. What Anwar do. They have access to all the information they need to form an opinion. Some have already made up their mind and some are still deciding. You make them understand your point of view by putting across rational and believable arguments to support your cause.

We say ABU  - they too say ABU - but it is a conditional ‘Yes”. Conditional that ABU comes with a better alternative to UMNO. Conditional to having a leader better then Najib. So their “YES’ to ABU is actually to ask “Who in place of UMNO?” This is just not reality but this is progress.

And there are enough of them out there to vote us in or out. The sooner we understand this, the earlier we start making them understand that our side of the divide is better then the other side under BN.

Why has Najib not decided on an election date? Right now any one can win the election. PR or BN – it is that close. Najib hopes that soon PR will make a mistake, the mood of the public will change to favour BN….that DSAI or any of the PR leaders will slip up or any of the state government under PR will be expose for abuse of power and anything else that will give the advantage to BN.

But ask yourself this. Why is Najib able to give Razak Baginda the RM$500 million commission for our government purchase of the Scorpene Submarines? Why are the Police so riddle with corrupt practices and kill so many in their custody? Why are MACC and the Judiciary opening themselves to ridicule and contempt from the public in the things that they do? Why has NFC happened and why has no decisive action been taken by the authorities to hold those in charge of it accountable?   

The truth of it all is that all these things happen because of people like you and me. We allowed it to happen because of our apathy. Our acceptance that these are the way things are done in Malaysia.   And we are responsible because we voted this UMNO led Barisan Nasional government into power. 

If we had done the right thing and voted for change many years ago, do you think we will have what we have now? A corrupt, diseased and arrogant UMNO that now has the audacity to ask for another term in government to put right what they cannot put right for the last 53 years?
 
It is time we make sure that these things will not happen again. We want ABU but we want a responsible and accountable alternative to UMNO. And the intellectual and thinking public will insists on it. And their votes will make the difference to being in government or being in opposition. Do the sums and work it out for yourselves.

I am not preaching anything radical when I write that PR needs to change – it is PR that needs to understand how these people are looking at them. And PR must do the necessary to ensure that it secures their support at the 13th General Elections. You already have ours!

My first reaction upon seeing the above headline this morning was this:  “Now which PM  and DPM are they talking about?” Aisehman why not go the whole nine yards and include the drivers and office boy at the PM and DPM’s office! They also know the ‘jalan’ how to get some things done ‘secepat mungkin!’. The whole damm gang up in Putrajaya are in on the game – it is just a matter of degree!

In America they call it Racketeering:

“Racketeering is the act of operating an illegal business or scheme in order to make a profit. It includes bribery, sexual exploitation of children, and illegal gambling”.

In Italy it is call Cosa Nostra:

“A loose association of criminal groups that share a common organizational structure and code of conduct, and whose common enterprise is protection racketeering”.

In Russia:Русская Мафия, tr. Russkaya Mafiya:

An organized structure of criminal groups.

In Malaysia it is call Barisan Nasional:

Once a major political coalition formed in 1973, it is now   a loose association of multi ethnic criminal groups that share a common organizational structure and code of conduct, and whose common enterprise is pillaging and plundering the wealth of its own Rakyat.

What makes Barisan Nasional unique from all the other organization are the following ciri ciri:  

·      It operates legally in the thirteen states and three

       federal territories of a federal constitutional

       monarchy in South East Asia call Malaysia.

·      It is protected by a system of government closely

       modeled on the Westminster parliamentary system.

·      BN enterprise of pillaging and plundering of the

       nations wealth is usually for a period of five years

       renewable through a system of electoral frauds and

       gerry meandering.

At least in Malaysia, through Barisan Nasional, we have one enterprise that is the envy of the Racketeers in the America, the Cosa Nostra in Italy and the Russian Mafia. Now if only Barisan Nasional will go global!  

No more blank cheques for PR!

Sometime in the past one year UMNO regain its advantage over Pakatan Rakyat….maybe it would be more appropriate to say that Pakatan Rakyat lost its momentum and UMNO took the lead by default. It was a gradual and excruciating process played out in the theatre of Malaysian politics but when it happened we were left in no doubt that Najib had indeed done a “Perak” again on Pakatan Rakyat!

We were left in no doubt that Pakatan Rakyat was now on the defensive but with its back still not yet against the wall… but getting there. Najib had done it by going for DSAI on a personal level. And DSAI had not learned from the lessons of his past and had inadvertently allowed Najib to lure him into the spider’s web.     

And now DAP and PAS awaits the outcome of DSAI trial. There are resigned to the thought (rightly or wrongly) that there is nothing else they can do but wait. While waiting Kit Siang and Hadi will plot the path their own party will take upon DSAI’s conviction or acquittal. Either way the opposition is damaged maybe beyond its own capacity to recover. We now know that in a crisis Pakatan Rakyat reacts after the fact – not before. We now see the fragility of this union of three political entities where racial consideration paralysis any open constructive dialogue amongst its leaders : even if it is to prepare for the possible loss of DSAI to the wheels of justice in Malaysia. Race and religion are capable of powerful imagery's that would prevent DAP from even trying to impose its thoughts, what more preferences, onto PKR or PAS. While each play out their waiting game, we wait and see what they will do.

UMNO has no such limitations. Whatever UMNO will do and can do will be judged on the effects it will have on the Malays and the Malays alone. There are enough votes from within the Malays to ensure UMNO victory in the 13^th general election. UMNO has no worry that MCA has been over shadowed by DAP’s ability to now have the Chinese votes in numbers large enough for UMNO to consider  DAP as a possible coalition partner in a revamped Barisan Nasional before or after the 13^th general election. Gerakan has as much say in Barisan Nasional proceedings as the IGP would have in the extension of his term of office after reaching his retirement age. Give MIC some post in the cabinet and Najib will have his dessert and eat it too with the Indians.

Najib is set to go. If push comes to shove I believe that Najib will call in his markers amongst the UMNO warlords and once and for all put Muhyiddin out of contention for the post of PM. The incumbent will always have the high ground unless there is a KJ lurking around. Rosmah may be a pain the neck for us all but for Najib she is his rock. Anybody would want to have Rosmah in their corner when the going gets tough.     

So where does that leaves Mahathir? I think we are giving too much credit to the old man. For the media he makes for good copy. For us he always has interesting things to tell. In the bigger picture of UMNO politics one thing Mahathir will not do is give money out in the manner that UMNO stalwarts are used to. So what can the old man offer this time? Maybe, just maybe the PM’s post for Muhyiddin. One post for one man when there are many in UMNO waiting for their ship to come in? No, not only will  Mahathir not dish out money he does not have the means to decide where power will reside within UMNO’s first tier leaders. Whatever power he might have is only perceived to be so – he cannot guarantee delivery. Without that ability UMNO will pay lip service to Mahathir – nothing more, nothing less. Even now Mahathir is history…he still has his story to tell but he is history.

Najib has everything and more telling, he is not beyond using that “everything” to remain PM. Over 30 years of politics at the very top makes any one that little bit more aware of what is needed to ensure victory. All that stands between Najib and the PM’s job is the possibility of his past and present personal indiscretion being aired in public. If nothing has come out until now then nothing will. Najib is good to be PM – he knows it, he wants it and he has done enough to ensure that he gets what he wants.

UMNO runs a tight ship. It only loses people it no longer wants or can afford to lose. What happens in UMNO normally stays in UMNO and those that strays from UMNO does not stray too far. Power, money and more money are all powerful persuaders and potent aphrodisiac to those wanting to be alpha males. And UMNO has plenty of them.

If Pakatan Rakyat can wake themselves from the stupor they are now in then there might still be time to take the high ground again if the people can be persuaded that Pakatan Rakyat’s cakap is serupa bikin  DSAI rather then to face the prospect of DSAI been convicted square on and start the process of finding a replacement. To do so is simply common sense and good governance given BN’s ability to dictate to the judiciary if they so chooses.

As it is now the damage is done. Pakatan Rakyat no longer has a blank cheque to do what it feels it must to win the 13^th GE. Now the people will question their every move and be critical of any decision PR makes in their march towards Putrajaya. I for one will no longer treat PR with kids gloves and pull my punches when making my comments on what they do in Malaysian politics. I know for a fact that I am not alone in these thoughts and we do so because we want Pakatan Rakyat to fight the good fight with Barsian Nasional come the 13^th general election.

Dormant company gets RM5.8b LNG project

Corrupt Barisan Nasional - IPOH: The Perak DAP today lodged a report against the Barisan Nasional state government for misusing its power in awarding a RM5.8 billion project to a RM100 dormant company to import liquified natural gas (LNG) from Qatar.

The project is located in Segari, Manjung.

The report was lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“This is a clear case of misuse of power by BN in giving this RM5.8 billion project to the RM100 dormant company named Atigas Technology Sdn Bhd,” party state deputy chief V Sivakumar said at a press conference. Also present were two other Pakatan members.

He believes that the project has been given to Umno cronies but he did not name the directors in the company.

He claimed that a check with the Companies Commission of Malaysia on Atigas Technology revealed that this dormant company was registered on Feb 28, 2008 and had no record of business activities or profits.

Sivakumar said that the BN state executive councillor Hamidah Osman had announced on June 9 this year that the award has been given to the company in May this year.

He asked why the contract was awarded without an open tender to a dormant company that has no track record in dealing with LNG.

Sivakumar also questioned the safety aspects of the project, claiming that no environmental impact assessment study was carried out before it was approved.

Abuse of Power : A Barisan Nasional "thing"

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Former Sabah police chief Datuk Ramli Yusoff was cleared by the Court of Appeal today of power abuse, four years after being charged for using a police helicopter for personal use.
The court's decision means that Ramli (picture) — once a top contender for the police force’s highest post with Tan Sri Musa Hassan who finally won the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) hat — can no longer be prosecuted over the case.
A three-man Bench led by Court of Appeal judge Datuk Sulong Matjeraie, which sat in Kota Kinabalu, unanimously agreed to uphold the High Court’s decision to acquit Ramli when they struck out the Attorney-General’s appeal.
The case had started in the Sessions Court, which also ruled Ramli innocent without his defence being called.
Ramli had been indicted on charges of abusing his position as Sabah police commissioner when he flew then Brigadier-General Mohamad Yasin Yahya aboard a Royal Malaysian Police Cessna Caravan helicopter on June 15, 2007 to survey two plots of land in Ulu Tungku, Lahad Datu.
The ex-cop, who was also once director of the Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), was acquitted in the Sessions Court last year on three counts of failing to declare his assets and breaching the law preventing public servants from being involved in private businesses.

This is how the f*#king BN government operates! They take an Innocent man who has served diligently and without fear or favor for all his working life in PDRM and for reasons only known to this f#*king BN government they proceed to accuse him of power abuse and for not declaring his assets - in short this f*#king BN government is accusing Datuk Ramli Yusuff of exactly what Najib, Muhyiddin, Mahathir and every goddamn Minister in this f*#king government is now doing! And after four years he is acquitted?

Why does the BN government do this? Why do they destroy so many innocent lives of its own Rakyat and cause our country to be denied their services : cause much physical and emotional pain to these individuals and their families : and they do all this because of what? To demonstrate to us that this BN government can do and will do what it please with our lives?

Yes we see what this BN government have done with Lim Guan Eng when he stood up against Rahim Thambi Chik - the then Chief Minister of Malacca who did get away with the rape of a Malay school girl!

We have seen what havoc and misery the ISA have wreck upon families and those incarcerated because of it.

And this BN government continues to impose its insidious will upon a people that by now have grown tired of this bullying. Tired of bowing our heads not in respect or submission to this bullying but bowing our heads because for now that is all we can do against a much stronger bully. And they mistake this for respect?
As each abuse by BN is exposed: At each vile act that BN perpetrated on an innocent Rakyat: For each death cause by this corrupt BN government: For all this that they do to us - we will know what to do when we cast out votes at the 13th general elections.

I think I know how Datuk Ramli Yusoff will vote. I think I know how the family of Teoh Beng Hock, Kugan, Aminurasyid and Sarbani will vote. So many people abused and and so many people affected and so many votes waiting to be cast to reflect the anger of the Rakyat against a BN government that has gone mad! Do you not think there is enough of them and us to ensure that never again will our country be torn apart and its coffers emptied by corrupt and arrogant BN politicians.

Never again.
