LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Rodney King, whose beating by police in 1992 sparked the LA race riots, was found dead in his swimming pool early Sunday, authorities said. He was 47.
Rialto Police Captain Randy Deanda told AFP King was found "unresponsive" at the bottom of his pool after a call from his fiancee and was pronounced dead at a local medical center shortly afterward at 6:11 am (1311 GMT).
"Preliminarily, there do not appear to be any signs of foul play," Deanda added, noting that police were conducting a drowning investigation and that the coroner's office would perform an autopsy.
King became a symbol of racial tensions in America following his beating by baton-wielding LA police after a high-speed car chase was caught on camera.
He was severely beaten by four white police officers who struck him more than 50 times with their wooden batons and used a stun gun.
Four officers involved went on trial for use of excessive force but were acquitted on April 29, 1992, triggering days of deadly rioting in Los Angeles that left more than 50 people dead and caused around one billion dollars in damage.
Speaking ahead of the 20th anniversary of the riots, King said racism still has to be challenged.
"There's always gonna be some type of racism. But it's up to us as individuals in this country to look back and see all the accomplishments that we have gotten to this far," he told CNN.
Asked about his feelings toward the police officers who beat him, he said: "I have forgiven (them), because America has forgiven me for so many things and given me so many chances.
"You get to have a second chance, and I've been given a second chance," said King, who has had a number of brushes with the law since 1992.
"I have much respect for (the police), much respect... some of them went out of their way over the years to try to make it up to me. Not all of them is bad."
In an earlier CNN interview, King recalled that he had been drinking despite being on parole after a 1991 robbery conviction and was headed home from a friend's house when he saw a police car was following him and panicked, worried he would be sent back to jail.
So he tried to flee by car but tried to park in a public place when he realized police officers were catching up with him.
"I saw all those apartments over there, so I said, 'I'm gonna stop right there,'" he said. "'If it goes down, somebody will see it.'"
King said as the officers beat him, they yelled, "We are going to kill you, nigger," although police later denied using racial slurs.
Since the events that catapulted him into the spotlight, King has had several brushes with the law.
He was arrested in 2005 for making threats to kill his daughter and his daughter's mother after the two women got into an argument with his then-girlfriend.
He was also arrested in 2003 for allegedly punching a girlfriend. He had also pleaded guilty to reckless driving after crashing into a house with his car.
In November 2007, he was treated in hospital after an incident in which he was shot and wounded in the face, back and upper torso, in the Los Angeles suburb of San Bernardino.

NST - running dog for UMNO!

Yesterday I went into the NST…according to the record my last visit was sometime in May…so I do not make a habit of going into NST but yesterday was a slow day for me and I did. And under ‘NATION” I saw: UMNO

NATION

         Politics
         Extras
         Umno

So I clicked UMNO: and this is what I saw:

Well at least it is now official. NST is a running dog for UMNO! Does it ever occurred to UMNO or NST what this will do to the credibility of NST (as if there is any more of it left!) as a newspaper? Or does it not matter anymore for UMNO because desperate people do desperate things! This country is really going to the dog! God help us all.

We will not come home to vote...but we are with you!

They may call us traitors to our own country. At times they tell us that Malaysia is better off if we stay wherever we are now - in London, Manchester, Moscow, Sydney, Paris or even Tokyo. For us Malays the vitriol is especially toxic because what we are today, they insist, is because of UMNO and their Ketuanan Melayu.

We are those who choose to live anywhere else but in Malaysia. We do so for various reasons but one thing unite us all – the search for a better life. Better then the one we left in Malaysia. Better then the one we have under an UMNO led Barisan Nasional and we hope an even better one for our children.

Our future is uncertain for we are Pendatangs in a different world, a different culture and a different mindset - but we are welcomed where we are! Nobody tells us that not being a Bumiputra will mean that we are not entitled to a discount when we want to buy a house nor will our children be discriminated against in education. Nobody tells us to write what our race, religion or even our gender is in any application forms we fill in. And nobody is remotely interested about your race or your religion in this new world that we are in.

So why, when we are thousands of kilometres away from Malaysia, why are we are still thinking of ‘home?’ Why are there activists amongst us that will disrupt Najib in London with shouts of “BERSIH?” Why are there many in Australia that plots the downfall of this UMNO led Barisan Nasional government? Why do we all want change?

We may be far away from ‘home’ but one thing this UMNO led Barisan Nasional government is not doing is to ignore us! They try their ‘charm offensive’ on us but they too quickly become offensive when we ignore their charms. We are told that “your country needs you” – what we say is that they should have thought about that many years ago before driving us out of our own country with their arrogance and haughty demeanour.

Today it is too late. We are settled in our new home. Our children even more. We have no wish to return home but we wish for a change in government for the betterment of our country and for the loved ones we left behind. They deserve better.

We will work towards that change in any way we can from where we are at now. In those good old days of two thirds majority in Parliament there was no need for a charm offensive to lure us back…..but times have changed! Today this UMNO led Barisan Nasional government is desperate for any help from any quarters to help them cross that 13th general election finishing line as victors. Whether they do or not is too close to call. This general election is unpredictable. At worse we hope for a hung parliament – at best Pakatan Rakyat in Putrajaya. Either way there is no place for Barisan Nasional. No place for UMNO! ABU!

If you could read my mind...what a tale my thoughts could tell!

Sometimes I stop to consider if I can carry on blogging at the rate I am now doing. The news cycle sucks in new stories at the speed of light – churns it around at breakneck speed while picking out what it wants to focus and dissects upon and then spits out the entrails and husk of what is left with great indifference. If luck is with me I enter willingly at the very inset of the breaking news and take what I can that is on offer – give it my treatment before posting it on my blog : hoping against hope that there will be someone out there who will give my blog the time of day for a quickie before some other breaking story catches their attention.

There is no luxury of time to ponder and sleep upon a breaking story – it is a ‘now’ thing that waits for no blogger and the readers out there shows no mercy it we get it wrong. And wrong or right is subjective – there is no universal decision makers that can decide these matters. Only the news cycle will pronounce the right and wrong of what you write by the clicks you get once you put it into the public domain. You write – others decide!

If you get it right then the adrenalin rush keeps you going for another day. Many times I sit in front of my PC empty of that ‘oomph’ energy and devoid of any thoughts that could trigger my passion to write on current affairs.

It is hard to think on cue…harder still to write on cue. Go try it. Go to Malaysiakita and scroll down what is on offer. Identify what you think is interesting and become the news and take the news cycle by storm. Better still if it becomes the main act in the news cycle for that day. That is enough time to dash our your take on the ‘news’  and post it on your blog!

For those of you that blog as I do I think you all know the rush you feel as you click ‘publish’ and see what you write there on your blog……..and you tell yourself “That was worth it!”

For those of you that tell us as you see it  - good or bad, ok or not – let me have my say on what you say. I marvel at those of you that find what I write offensive and yet are stupid enough to come back time and time again to read what I write….are you idiots glutton for punishments or are you guys paid to do just that? Sticks and stones may break my bones but talk does not bother me.

I write when I want to write. I write what I want to write. If I want to take a day off I do…sometimes I take three to four months off! I write to my own agenda and nobody else. I am unfailingly polite because that was what I was taught to be by my parents. So far this blogging thing has been a blast for me……I hope a blast that would last for a while longer. For those who read what I write…thank you!

The Sultan Of Johore is now embroil in a spat with Bekas Menteri Besat Perak Mohammad Nizar about a Number Plate!

Not about poverty amongst the rural Malays.

Not about the lack of affordable housing for the Nation’s poor.

Not about the increasing civil unrest created by the Pendatangs as the settle into a way of life alien to them in OUR country!

Not about clean, open and free elections!

The spat is about a Number Plate costing RM$520,000!

If that Sultan has got that kind of Ringgits lying around to spare to buy a number plate let him go buy it. I do not really care whether he or his son gives their salary to any foundation or charity….and if they do why go and tell everyone else? Just keep quiet lah! Why the need to boost!

As for Nizar  I suggest that he just focus on the coming 13
general elections. No need to go and apologize or ‘meyembah duli.” Those days are over. Just use Twitter lah! I am sure Tuanku is Twitter savvy.

‘Don’t forget what BN’s done for you’

It’s 7.01.a.m here in Melbourne. That was the first headline I saw on Free Malaysia Today when I clicked into the website. How appropriate! I went to sleep with the image of those Milan, Dubai stopover (at the Rakyat expense) for Rosmah’s shopping spree with Najib tagging along. Kennedy gallantly admitted to the French that he was the man who accompanied Jackie to Paris, Najib can say the same of his time in Dubai and Milan with FLOM  but Jackie charmed the French…I wonder what Rosmah’s shopping spree did to the economy of Milan and Dubai?

Anyway….I digress! In Bayan Lepas yesterday Muhyiddin reminded industrial workers in Western Digital “Don’t  Forget!” and Najib wants us to look back to September 16th 2008.

Yes Sir I will but maybe we should first go back to your days as Menteri Besar of Pahang and Minister of Defense because we must not forget that we are the sum of all the things we have done in the past and present!

Those were the times when you had your brains stuck in your zipper! Remember? Power and money does that to you. I wonder where you would be without Rosmah by your side today. It takes a thief to know a thief – no Sir I am not suggesting you or Rosmah are thieves – just that birds of a feather flies together. You were both married to other people when you met….get my drift? So I guess these days Rosmah have got you on a tight leash knowing what she knows about what you both did in the good old days! But we all change with age…at least I hope the two of you do! I know that that friend of your in Washington is as randy as ever!

Now as Minister of Defense – apart from all the saluting and the guard of honor you have to inspect every time you visit those camps – those were the really good olds days for you! The whole damm armed forces at your disposal with Generals scampering to what ever you want them to do.

And what about those Mindef tenders! God so many tenders and so much money to be made! Yes we know that Rosmah got into the act but there was still enough to go around and still keep your people fat and happy. Only being Minister of Finance could top being Minister of Defense…and as luck would have it, you are The Minister of Finance today! Ahhhh your cup runneth over.

What about Muhyiddin?

He fancies himself a future Prime Minister but for now he is your Deputy – as you were once Deputy to Pak Lah. You know what you did to Pak Lah so uneasy lies the Head with the Crown! The down side to being Prime Minister of Malaysia is that you have nowhere to go but DOWN! And you are Prime Minister now! Aisehman I am sure you are wondering when the ‘going down’ is going to start. Najib it starts NOW!

Just for a moment stop listening to your advisers who advised you about how the Panda’s would boost your ‘softer image’ to the Malaysian Public and how you should ‘manage’ NFC. Now you are wishing that the Panda agenda would just go away. And if only NFC could be stamped NFA and be gone!

Najib the going down has already started and with all the long knives out for FLOM I guess you will not be dropped down gently – by us or by UMNO! I have always wondered how you would cope when faced with defeat. I guess we will see soon enough.

For now do not ask us to look back to anytime in the past because our memories of what UMNO has done to us overcomes all other sensibilities. And as Muhyiddin asks of us "We will not Forget"....we will always look back in Anger!

Aung San Suu Kyi: Nobel Prize 'opened up a door in my heart'

Burma opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi accepts her 1991 Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo and urges the world not to forget those prisoners of conscience who are still behind bars.

Burma democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi said that winning the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize while under house arrest "opened up a door in my heart," encouraging her to continue her struggle.
Giving her Nobel lecture in Oslo 24 years on, she said the award committee "were recognising that the oppressed and the isolated in Burma were also a part of the world, they were recognising the oneness of humanity".
"So for me receiving the Nobel Peace Prize means personally extending my concerns for democracy and human rights beyond national borders," said Suu Kyi. "The Nobel Peace Prize opened up a door in my heart".

Aung San Suu Kyi taken ill during news conference

Burma's democratic opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, falls sick during a press conference in Switzerland minutes after saying she feels "disoriented" by the travel.

Aung San Suu Kyi said she felt the journey from Asia to Europe had been "exhausting and disorientating" because she said she had become "completely unused to time change."
Moments later, an aide rushed to her side. She bent over, seemingly in pain and threw up before being escorted out of the news conference by officials.
Earlier on Thursday, Ms Suu Kyi had visited the United Nations in Geneva on the first stop of her two-week tour of Europe. It is the first time she has visited the continent in 24 years.

RM3 mil for Najib-Rosmah's trip but official plane also landed in Milan, Dubai

undefined

Harakahdaily,15 June 2012
Jun 15: Did prime minister Najib Razak reward Rosmah Mansor's 'sacrifice' last year to skip their Italian vacation with an all-paid trip to Milan?

The admission by minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Aziz that Najib and Rosmah's recent tour to three Western cities incurred RM3 million recalls a public expression of gratitude by the UMNO president to his wife last year for forgoing a family holiday in Italy.

Yesterday, replying to a question by Seputeh member of parliament Teresa Kok, Nazri said Najib was in London to attend a reception hosted by Britain's Prince Charles, and in New York for a meeting of a council called Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council.

A breakdown of the costs given by Nazri reveals shocking multi-digit figures.

For his two-day plus stay in London, the government forked out RM849,175. A similar length of stay in New York cost double that amount, at RM1,606,402, while his remaining days spent in Washington for a private visit, cost the government 452,985.75.

The short stay in New York, according to a Bernama report, was filled in by Rosmah with a meeting with US Girl Scouts head Anna Maria Chavez and a hospital walk around.

In Washington, the couple attended the graduation of their son Nor Ashman who completed his Bachelors of Science in International Affairs at Georgetown University.

'Flight plan tells otherwise'

But Nazri's claim that the trip ended in Washington has been disputed by Teresa (left), who cited "aeronautical evidence" obtained from a flight plans website, which shows that his plane had travelled from Washington to Milan, Italy, on May 20, a day after arriving in Washington.

"The entourage remained in Milan for four days. The flight plan also shows the plane had stopped over in Dubai and then returned to Kuala Lumpur," said Teresa. (A simulation of the plane's journey has been recorded by the air traffic website Flight Radar 24).

"Why did Nazri lead the Parliament to believe, in the Parliamentary reply, that the contingent had stayed in Washington for almost five days?," she further asked, and demanded Najib to declare his travel mates to Milan and whether more taxpayers’ money had been used.

Teresa also questioned the use of the official aircraft, 9M-NAA, for private purposes.

Urging the government to explain the half-a-million ringgit bill for what Nazri said was for the accompanying officers' trip in Washington, she asked whether the Milan-Dubai journey was a vacation trip concealed from the public.

"Can the PM justify using the nation’s official aircraft for his family and staff holiday?" she asked.

FUNDED BY TAXPAYERS ... This Airbus plane is the official air transport to carry the Agong and the PM, codenamed 9M-NAA

Upon his return from a European trip in July last year, Najib publicly thanked his wife Rosmah for allowing to forgo a family holiday in Italy "for the sake of Malaysians back home".

According to a Bernama report, Najib was to spend a week holidaying in Italy.

This was not the first time that Najib and Rosmah's trip expenditure has come under scrutiny in the parliament.

Last year, it was revealed that the government spent more than RM17 million for trips made by the couple since 2008, with one-third of the amount being spent in the first six months of 2011.

The parliament was also then told that RM134,317.76 was spent to cover Rosmah's expenses during her trip to Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bangladesh, following criticism that she had spent RM140,000 for an overnight stay at Dubai's luxury hotel Atlantis.

And Now The End is Near......

How times have change! Today we have Lim Kit Siang and Nurrul (she is going to be a one name personality – no need for Izzah or daughter of DSAI to tell us who she is!) denying that they want to see Mahathir jailed for his crimes against the Nation. Kit Siang and Nurrul are being polite!

A person found guilty of corruption dies by the firing squad in China.

In some country capital punishment has been abolished and life in prison means just that – LIFE!

The Taliban sentenced women caught dancing at wedding festivities to be shot to death!

In Malaysia corruption makes you rich! PDRM gets away with murder. Having a good time like the Raba Raba Minisiter gets you a much sought after posting to Washington as our Envoy! And UMNO politicians and Chief Justice indulged in sexual high jinks without fear of being shot to death! More often then not they go out and get themselves trophy wife, with or without the permission of their first or other wives!

What shall we do with an errant ex-Prime Minister?

It is not about DSAI seeking revenge for the indignities he suffered under Mahathir – as Nurrul had said. It is not about Kit Siang wanting to jail or not to jail Mahathir. It is about Justice. If you do the crime you do the time! Age, gender, race or religion will not give you a ‘Get out of Jail” pass!

We do not decide though the weight of public opinion will hold sway over the decision that will be made by the courts – but before we let the court decide – the courts must no longer be an instrument of their political masters as they are now of Barisan Nasional.

For Mahathir knows that the time for his reckoning draws near.  That day of reckoning with the hereafter and that day of reckoning when he will have to answer for the things he did as Prime Minister of our country.

He can say what he wants:  That he has not done anything illegal, that his family and cronies have not profited from his time in office, that he does not deserve to be tried for corruption, money politics or any other crime. Whether he did or not is for the court to decide – not this court under Barisan Nasional but a court still to convene under a responsible, accountable and open government.

If that court decides that Mahathir should be jailed – so be it. If the court decides that he has no case to answer – so be it. Meantime will Kit Siang, Nurrul or anybody else please refrain from giving their opinions as to what can and cannot be done for this Mahathir. He will get what he deserves – old or not, ex Prime Minister or not, Melayu or not! Until that day you can remember Mahathir in your prayers much like the Jews remembered Hitler in theirs! Amen!

Is Anwar Ibrahim a corrupt man?

Is Anwar Ibrahim a corrupt man? Has he gained financially from his position as DPM while in UMNO and in his position as the Economic Advisor to PKR in Selangor? Did those who were working for him or with him profited too by their association with him? There will be many amongst you that have already made up your mind on this matter based on information that you access on the net and in the media. Goggle Anwar Ibrahim and you will find 3.5 million references about him -  enough reading to do until the early hours of 2020 and you still will not get past a smidgen of what is out there about this man…..not even a drop in the ocean of information available about this man.

So tell me friend what do you know and what have you read about this man? Did what Petra wrote recently  about DSAI during his time as Minister of Finance made you decide that DSAI is corrupt?

If it did then ask yourself this question: How come Mahthir and Najib did not use this ‘evidence’ to nail DSAI to the cross! Why do they need Sodomy One and Two, the Carcosa tapes and all those gutter youtube videos to try to tar and feather DSAI? What Petra claimed DSAI did while in UMNO would have put him away in Sungai Buloh for a while…and yet they were not used by Najib or Mahathir! Is what that is in Petra’s possession kosher? Think of it, a retired ex ACA operative flies off to London or Manchester (wherever it was that he met with Petra) at whose expense? Not Petra for sure! At his own expense? Huh for sure NO! So who pays for that trip plus expenses and pocket money. Who? Vested interest possibly…very generous vested interest for sure! But for what desired purpose? For UMNO or does he have an axe to grind against DSAI personally?

In short we can speculate and ruminate till the cows come home and we will never come close to the truth. Leave Petra out of this because he is just the ‘alat’ used to get the story out to us – a good ‘alat’ and possibly a believable ‘alat’ but nevertheless he is being used by others to get this story out to us. And so where does this all end?

It will end after the 13th general elections and not a moment sooner. If BN wins they will have no interest in following through on what DSAI did when he was with UMNO. If Pakatan Rakyat wins then PR too will not have any interest in following through on the story!  So for what reason is Petra being so mischevious with this story about DSAI that happened over 15 years ago?

The same reason I am writing about it now. People will want to read about it. It is good for me and it is good for my blog and it is good for Petra and Malaysia Today! After the general election it will get as much attention as what is happening in Batang Berjuntai this Friday Night! Maybe of interest to the people in Batang Berjuntai but not to the rest of the nation.

Anwar knows this too well! He treats these exposures with as much interest and as he would have every time he boards a plane to go overseas yet again, and again and again! Yawn!!!!!

It is what we do with it that gives these stories a life of their own. We talk about it with the aplomb of an expert about someone we most probably have never even met!. We give our comments unsolicited to anybody within earshot. We tell them our take on the latest DSAI’s stories while embellishing those part which WE want to highlight to confirm our contention that he is corrupt or not  -  depending on where you stand on this issue! And then we publish out comments like the experts that we are on the coming and goings of DSAI! And this is how these stories take on a life of their own….

Take this sms that I receive a few days back:

“my group  & I were already set to move w pm. If u r ere now in KL u can literally feel d GE13 momentum is goin pms way! W or w/out bloggers, a ‘simple majority’ is in ‘hand’! He is goin 4 june polls! How do I kno this? Simply bcos people in my group r also is advisors!

Now if I “melatah” and took that as gospel coming from the PM’s own advisors – where will it take me? Down the same path as those other people who are used by others to serve their own agenda? So please ladies and gentlemen chill! Take yourself out of the loop and stop thinking what others want you to think.

For those of you that see DSAI as one who can do no wrong I want to confirm with you guys that the last time I checked on DSAI he is as fallible as anyone of us.  He makes mistakes like anyone of us will do from time to time and he certainly has vested interests in making sure that Pakatan Rakyat will come into the 13th general election ready and willing to give BN a run for their money! So what he does today is towards making that a reality.  His interest is in reaching out to the electorate with his message that he is for clean, accountable and responsible government! That and getting the voters to vote for him!

Najib on the other hand is too engrossed in turning himself into a Jack of All Trade and is unfortunately Master of none! He actually sits and listens to advisors who tell him that they can transform his image into what the Rakyat will want him to be! He is Mr Cool, Mr Innovation, Mr Transformation, he is for 1 Malaysia, he is for Ketuanan Melayu.  Everything you want him to do, Najib will do! Well almost anything….I want him to F@*k Off but he will not!

So do not ask if DSAI is corrupt unless you are prepared to ask the same question of Mahathir, Najib, Pak Lah, Muhyiddin, Sharizat, Isa Samad, Tengku Razali, Kadir Sheikh Fadil…and of every damm UMNO and Barisan Nasional politician that has ever held public office. From East Malaysia or West Malaysis. Every one of them are tainted because that is the culture within their brand of politics in Malaysia. Monkey see monkey do!

Can they change? Reminds me of the story about the rattle snake and the tortise. The rattle snake was afloat on a piece of sinking pile of rubbish after a flood and wanted desperately to get to dry land. He saw a tortise swim by and pleaded with the tortise to take him to dry land. The tortise said “NO’ because you will bite me and kill me” The Rattle snake said no he will not because if he does they will both die in mid stream. That sounded logical and so the tortise took the rattle snake on its back and started swimming towards the other side. Mid way the rattle snake bit the tortise on its neck…. and the dying tortise said to the rattle snake “Now we are both going to die. Why did you bite me? And the rattle snake said “It is in my nature!” And so it is with those who were in UMNO and those who are still in UMNO and Barisan Nasional It is in their nature to lie, be arrogant and care for themselves more than for those that elected them into office. And we will be fools if we expect them to change!
