cakap cakap...tipping point!

In all humility I can say that I have tried to do what I can to shift people’s mind to want change in Malaysia through what I write in steadyaku47. What have you done?

It is not enough to read blogs that tells you of the abuses perpetrated by UMNO on us.

It is not enough to go and listen to Kit Siang, Hadi and DSAI talk stirringly about the struggles of Pakatan Rakyat against the relentless attempts by UMNO and Barisan Nasional to stifle and harass everything that Pakatan Rakyat tries to do for the people in the states that they govern over.

It is also not enough for you to have lively and ‘meaningful’ discussions over teh tarik and roti canai until the early hours of the morning in mamak stalls all over the country!

You do this to past the time of day. Do not think that you have done enough to now be part of the revolution – part of the struggle Pakatan Rakyat is now engage with against UMNO and BN to bring much needed change to Malaysia.

My friend you are doing nothing!

It is not teh tarik and roti canai that will bring change. It is not the hours spent talking with your friends that will make change happen. All this that you do will not assist Pakatan Rakyat in its struggle against UMNO and Barisan Nasional.

Sometimes I despair and ask myself what will move our people to go and undertake a task, do a deed or an act that will make a difference to the fortunes of Pakatan Rakyat. So far I have not been able to do much but write.

Pakatan Rakyat is not asking for much. Your money can help Pakatan Rakyat to do things but Pakatan Rakyat does not ask for your money! Pakatan Rakyat does not ask you to brave PDRM’s riot squad or attend demonstrations after demonstrations against the BN government. They have people who will do all that without being asked.

What Pakatan Rakyat ask is for you to be with them! When you see Kit Siang, Hadi or Anwar pass by, wave to them and put your thumbs up in a gesture of solidarity, support and gratefulness for what they have done to try and bring positive change to our country.

If they hold ceramah or talks in your area – go and listen to them and be of good cheer. Make these ceramah to be  happy occasions. A good crowd will give encouragement and a sense of being appreciated to these Pakatan Rakyat politicians who have come to meet and greet you all. Talk to them, ask questions and thank them for coming as they too will thank you for being present.

Always goodwill and good cheer to all that are with us in our struggle againsts UMNO and Braisan Nasional.

The UMNO general assembly has been our turning point.

UMNO unwarranted attacks on Christians and Chinese have bonded us all together. There is no need for the Malays to say anything to the Chinese – no need for apologies for what UMNO has done. We are all one.

I remember I had this feeling in 1992 when we were against Indonesia in the Thomas Cup final. I remember it as if it was yesterday. We were one people that night. Malaysian All! When Cheah Soon Kit and Soo Beng Kiang took the winning point my heart overflowed with pride and joy like no other time in my life as a Malaysian. It was an incredible coming together of all Malaysian.

This time it is more subdued but no less intense as that night in 1992 at Stadium Negara! We were deliriously happy in 1992. Today in 2011 we are coming together again as one people but the stakes are higher and we know that the costs of failure is something we cannot bear. Failure is not an option.

If the UMNO general assembly is our turning point then I want to tell you that what Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) said to Najib today is the tipping point!

I was wrong in thinking that we would have to fight for change in Malaysia without our young and without our Mahasiswa.

Today in an act of courage and clarity Shukri Abd Razak, Chairman of SMM told us that SMM will  NOT apologise to Najib. On the contrary SMM warned Najib that if Najib did not deliver on his promises to amend the restrictive Universities and Universities Colleges Act (UUCA) students will not hesitate to bring the government down just like they brought down the flag at UMNO HQ. Enough said!

Now we are ready! We have all that we need to go into battle with UMNO and Barisan Nasional. Old as I am I am energized by what I hear SMM said today. And so, I am sure, will all those who have been quietly waiting in the wings for just that ‘tipping point’ needed to once and for all give us that edge over UMNO and Barisan Nasional.

We want a modern multi cultural Malaysia…we are together..we are part of something..and that something is our future! You have nothing to lose but a corrupt and arrogant UMNO and Barisan Nasional. Focus our minds on this. Commit our time and energy to achieving  this.

Pakatan Rakyat have long been ready for the 13th general elections. We the people too have been ready with Pakatan Rakyat. Now we want to see the young and our Mahasiswa  take their place with us…and we will have all that we need to rid ourselves of UMNO and Barisan Nasional!

Be afraid UMNO …be very afraid!

Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia!

What more is there to say when you see this?

Another nail in UMNO's coffin!

Another UMNO supporter, who by his very deed, turns good decent people against UMNO!

Another UMNO supporter lost in his inability to understand that bullying and putting your point across by physical intimidation is as outdated as wielding a Keris to intimidate others.

Another UMNO supporter oblivious to anything else but his anger that some one else dares to think in a manner different to his blinkered views of how things should be!

And he wants to set things right the UMNO way....using his fists. That might is right!

Let us tell Adam Adil, SMM and all Mahasiswa that we are all together in this. We are with you all in thoughts, in spirit and in any capacity that is required to make UMNO and their goons understand that enough is enough!

It is also time that Pakatan Rakyat act to give tangible support and assist to SMM - we are all in this together!

Bendera YAB Najib Tun Razak!

Sealamat Pagi! Like it or not we are all waking up this morning to this furor over ‘Bendera YAB Dato Seri Najib’ (Pemuda UMNO’s word not mine!) that has been disrespectfully taken down from where it is ‘berkibar kibar’ in front of UMNO HQ at PWTC by Adam Adil who is a member of Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia. And so by extension, UMNO, BN, PDRM and all the relevant goons are now going all out to not only lynch Adam Adil but also with him,  SMM!

Now let us back off a bit.

"flag is a piece of fabric with a distinctive design that is usually rectangular and used as a symbol. National flags are potent patriotic symbols with varied wide-ranging interpretations".

Since when has Najib got a Flag? Is this ‘Najib’s Flag’ a symbol for UMNO, for BN, Pekan or just for his Family? First off if it is for his family then it should have been an image of Rosmah on the flag NOT Najib!

Or was this ‘Flag’ just a banner with an image of Najib fluttering in front of UMNO HQ as a decoration to make UMNO HQ more ‘friendly” – quite like us putting a poster of Paris Hilton in our bedroom for medicinal purposes! If so then I would suggest a flag with Paris Hilton would be able to do that better then a flag with Najib’s image.

I can even see Najib nodding in agreement on this one!

Another worrying aspect is what is this Bendera of YAB Najib Tun Razak suppose to be a symbol of? If it is a symbol of Najib himself then the first thing it is a symbol of is the murder of Altantuya! Then the purchase of the Submarines through that middle man call Razak Baginda and his commission of RM$500 million! Najib’s abuse of his executive power while Minister of Defence…and of course his lack of balls and guts to face DSAI and Pakatan Rakyat on a level playing field come the 13th general elections.

Now if it is a symbol of Najib’s leadership of UMNO then it  is a symbol of the depths that Najib’s leadership has caused UMNO to continue to sink into : more money politics, more corruption and more arrogance!

Now Pemuda UMNO says that what Adam Adil did to the flag was disrespectful, This is what Adam said he did:

I was holding on to the flag the whole five minutes so as to not step on it or let anything happen to it. I was fully aware on how to respect the flag. I didn’t even leave it on the floor. Even if the guards didn’t tell us to raise it up again, I would have done so myself” .

Now consider what these Pemuda UMNO did to a banner/flag of Tok Guru and Hadi of PAS:

I rest my case.

Student protester faces threats, harassment

Adam Adli, who removed a flag at Umno HQ to put up an academic freedom flag, lodges police report after he and his family are targeted, including an attempted assult at Bukit Aman.
PETALING JAYA: Adam Adli, the student protester who lowered the flag bearing premier Najib Tun Razak’s portrait last Saturday at Umno headquarters, fears for his safety following continuous threats and harassment against him.
Even today, a small tussle had occurred at the Bukit Aman police headquarters when Adam, a second year Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student, was giving a press conference after seeking advice from the police over the threats and intimidation.
Adam said he believed the man who attempted to assault him at Bukit Aman was a police personnel. He lodged a police report over the attempted attack and the other threats at the Jalan Tun HS Lee police station.
“I believe that he was a plain-clothes police officer as he was present in the meeting room in Bukit Aman when I had consulted another officer over the threats and intimidations following the flag incident.
“But when he attempted to punch me at the press conference, no one tried to stop him. There were other uniformed officers but I noticed that they didn’t take any action,” he told FMT when contacted.
When contacted, Bukit Aman could not confirm if the alleged incident had taken place.
Last Saturday, during a rally against the government’s decision to amend the Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA) and protesting for academic freedom, Adam had  lowered a flag bearing Najib’s image and raised the “Academic Freedom” flag instead at the Umno headquarters in the city centre.
Although the ‘freedom flag’ was only raised for five minutes, many Umno members criticised the move. Some quarters even made violent physical threats against Adam and demanded an apology.
Family targeted as well
Adam’s (photo, right) family in Penang was also harassed over the weekend. Adam included all these threats in his police report lodged today.
Fearing his safety, he said: “I am chased on twitter and people have been messaging me continuously, so much that I have switched off my phone.
“My safety is not guaranteed any longer,” he said.
The Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) student defended his action saying that he was well-aware that he had to respect the flag
“There are many misleading reports saying that I stepped on the flag but I was holding on to the flag the whole five minutes so as to not step on it or let anything happen to it.
“I was fully aware on how to respect the flag. I didn’t even leave it on the floor. Even if the guards didn’t tell us to raise it up again, I would have done so myself,” he said.
He added that the gesture to lower the flag was to show that the university students were serious in their cause and demands.
“That’s the only reason why I lowered the flag. They are trying to divert attention from the real issue at hand”.

Students will not apologise to Najib

 | December 19, 2011
On the contrary, they warned the premier that if he does not deliver his promises, the students will not hesitate to bring the government down just like the flag at the Umno HQ.
KUALA LUMPUR: Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) will not apologise to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak for bringing down a flag bearing the premier’s face at the Umno headquarters in Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
The student movement instead gave Najib an ultimatum: amend the restrictive Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA) or face the consequences in the upcoming polls.
On Saturday, around 500 students protested the government’s decision to amend the UUCA and rallied for academic freedom under the movement called Gerakan Kebebasan Akademik (Bebas).
They demanded that the UUCA be abolished and urged that students’ involvement in politics fall under the purview of their respected university administrations rather than one common law such as the UUCA.
In the premises of the Umno headquarters, one student lowered a flag bearing Najib’s image and raised the “Academic Freedom” flag instead. Although the latter was only raised for five minutes, many Umno members criticised the move and demanded an apology.
The list included Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaludin and Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah. Saifuddin received a memorandum from the protesters on the same day at PWTC.
‘Lost faith in Najib’
Asked if they would apologise, SMM chairman Syukri Adb Razab told FMT that the student movement would not do so.
During a joint press conference here today, Syukri voiced scepticism over the government’s proposal to amend the UUCA, saying that it is probably another “gimmick” to ensure Najib’s poltical survival.
“The lowering of the flag was a symbolic gesture that we students have lost faith in Najib’s leadership. Since the announcement or reforms on Sept 16, there have been many contrary actions by the government.
“Najib said ISA will be repealed but then 10 people were arrested in Sabah on Nov 14 using the ISA. Najib said that the (Section 27) of the Police Act will be amended but in its place, they have put in a more restrictive law, the Peaceful Assembly Bill.
“How can we still have faith in Najib’s leadership?” he asked.
Syukri said that students will give Najib until the next general election to deliver the promised reforms for an open society and do away with the UUCA or face severe consequences.
“Today we lowered the flag, tomorrow we will not hesitate to bring down the whole government and replace it with another who will protect the people’s rights,” he warned.
Many pro-Umno bloggers accused the students of being influenced by the opposition.
‘We don’t take sides’
Responding to this, former student activist Teh Yee Keong, who was also present, cited the example of the student protest in University College Insaniah (KUIN) in Kedah.
“When students protest on campuses in opposition led-states, it shows that the student body is independent and does not pick sides,” he said.
Adding to this, Syukri said: “We don’t side with any party. In fact, this is a warning to all leaders regardless of who is in power.”
He also warned that if action is taken against Adam Adli, the student who lowered the flag, the student movement will consider legal action against the government.
“It is a gesture which represented all the protesters who were there that day, it is not only the action of one person,” he added.
