Weird deputy minister !

Wednesday, 18 November 2009 Super Admin

(AFP) - Malaysia's deputy education minister has said that speaking English in the workplace is "weird" and harmful to the nation's culture and identity, a report said Wednesday.
"This also occurs in government-linked companies where we have this weird culture of people speaking to each other in English instead of the national language," he said at the launch of a linguistics seminar.
He called on the nation's leaders to use Bahasa Malaysia for all meetings and events and said that when he receives letters in English he returns them and asks for them to be written in the national language.
I have been asked by one of our friends to comment on what this deputy Minister has said –as per above. Ok let me story you about his comment….
To me what is sad is that we have a deputy minister like him! He tells us that when he receives letters in English he returns them? I can only ask you guys to have a look at this clip from a Bujang Lapok  film….if only P Ramlee was still around  I am sure the said deputy Minister would have a part as an extra….or maybe lead actor number four (after the three Bujang Lapok lah!)

Yes by all means stress the importance of our Bahasa but what is wrong in knowing a second or even third language. Maybe Najib should allow him out of the cage once in while and send him to places where people will send him back to Malaysia if he does not converse with them in their mother tongue…..France, Japan or Korea comes to mind…does he write to his counterparts in these countries in Bahasa, English or their mother tongue? Maybe with deputy Ministers like him it would be better to keep him inside the cage!

  1. The only thing that is weird is that someone with his command of English is the Deputy Education Minister. No wonder our education system is in deep shit.

  2. So let's say the Queen of England wrote to him to receive a knighthood from her, would he return the letter to the queen and demand that she translate it into English?

Why is it that our ruling politicians seem to be climbing each other to make a damn fool of themselves? Are they competing for "Clown of the Year" award or something?

  3. A perfect example of what an ‘idiot’ is. If what he said is enforced, then …
    1) We should all stress that all ministers bring their children, including his own (if any) back from overseas. What’s the point of learning English if you are ‘not allowed’ to speak it here. After all, one must lead by example.
    2) We should no longer send anymore students overseas on scholarships because they won’t be able to understand the language anyway, and we won’t be able to learn anything anymore since we don’t understand English. I wonder whether he would be willing to be treated by our local medics using archaic methods of treatment if he needed a heart bypass several years from now!!
    3) Better yet, all ministers should stop travelling overseas for learning anything because they cannot speak or understand the language., unless they are there on the pretext of learning when the entire family can have a fabulous holiday at taxpayers’ expense.
    4) Before any foreign dignitary comes to Malaysia, he or she have to be taught Bahasa because it is ‘weird’ for Malaysians to speak in English to them. No point having translators because they won’t understand English anyway, so what is there to translate.
    5) All foreign employees in foreign companies here should either learn Bahasa or pack up their things and leave. No point doing business here if they cannot communicate with the locals (which is one of the main reasons why many foreign companies have their businesses relocated to other countries).
And to think we have idiots leading in the Ministry of Education. I wonder whether the Minister of Education himself supports what this idiot is saying (and I must remember his name). If he does, then he would be the bigger idiot.

Konon hendak merpetahankan dan mempertabatkan Bahasa Melayu !!!! Inilah menang sorak kampung tergadai.
