cakap cakap....victim of their own hubris.

Tunku was able to marry another wife without most of us knowing about it. Tun Razak was a very ill man when he went to London for treatment and the first most of us knew about it was when we heard the news of his death. Most of us were unaware that Tun Hussein Onn supported Musa and Razaleigh in the 1987 UMNO leadership crisis. Mahathir was able to abuse his executive power as Prime Minister for the personal gain of his own children without most of us knowing about it until very much later.

Things were already changing when Pak Lah became PM. His Prime Ministership was greatly compromised by the excesses of KJ and his immediate family and cronies. Everything they did was put into the public domain through the Internet. And the people devastatingly delivered their verdict against the abuse of the PM’s office by Pak Lah through the 12th GE.

Now we have Najib and Anwar going head to head towards the 13th general election. Nothing they do, have done or will do will be allowed to be swept under the carpet. What they will do or not do will be debated and discussed by any one who cares to do so. Everyone will have an opinion and their opinion matters because the sum of it all will decide their political future. And no one within their family or those associated with them will be spared this close scrutiny.

And yet they both seem oblivious to the fact that they are now under intense and obsessive public scrutiny.

How else do you explain Najib’s attempts at turning himself into a “Mr Cool?”

How does he not think that we will judge him irresponsible for the budget he has just tabled? A generous budget indeed but any fool can see that it was too contrived to be anything else but an election budget? A budget our nation can ill afford but one that Najib and BN will need to try and secure  votes for the coming general election?

PM: ‘Jika tak ada duit tak akan saya berani’ bawa bajet RM232b.

What does Najib think he is doing by allowing Rosmah to partake in governmental affairs? Does she think herself another Evita Peron?

To me it underlines the isolation of those in the upper echelons of government from the Rakyat. An isolation embellished by the lifestyle they choose to live.

Anwar does no better.

He emphasized the hopelessness of his legal options by making a political statement from the dock instead of concentrating on his defense.

He ravels in presenting himself as the much maligned political opponent to Najib unable to understand that it is himself that has given Najib the opportunity to malign him!

Anwar has lost too many supporters, acquaintances and good and loyal  friend to be able to plead “Wolf”. Why do so many of his relationship with people turn toxic? There are too many of these people who now work tirelessly to tell others what the real anwar really is. It would do him much good if he gives some thought to that old adage : You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

So for Najib and Anwar forces working to unseat them from their position of power are everywhere!

Pak Lah’s nemesis was KJ. Najib has Rosmah to contend with – a formidable lady that mistakenly thinks that she is her own strength! In these recent years our affection for Siti Hasmah, the late Kak Endon and Jean did not diminished despite the questionable fortunes of their husbands. I have yet to meet a single person that would want Rosmah to have another term as First Lady …if anything they would vote Najib out just so they will be rid of her!

Anwar and Najib are two people without a single thought between them about what they need to do to reassure us that they can be leaders we can look up to. What matters to them has got nothing to do with the Rakyat of Malaysia – it has all got to do with I, me and myself.

Both of them think that the beat way of dealing with these negative forces is to ignore them and hope that in time, they will go away.

Nothing goes astray on the Net. Nothing escapes the attention of the Rakyat. They seek and they will find.

Najib and Anwar must understand that the 13th general election will be televised in its totality….and we will watch what we want with pauses, playbacks and repeats to examine every single word they utter, every action they make to satisfy ourselves who between them  deserves our vote! Justice in its absolute form will be decided for these two by the people themselves. Until they understand this they will be the victims of their own hubris.
