TV STATION ANNOUNCES FALSE NAMES OF AIRLINE PILOTS

A US TV station has been forced to issue an apology after it announced incorrect names for the pilots on crashed Asiana Flight 214.
Not only were the names incorrect, but they appear to have been part of an offensive, and some would say obvious, prank.
"Sum Ting Wong," "Wi Tu Lo," "Ho Lee Fuk" and "Bang Ding Ow", were the pilot names the station said had been confirmed by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Even as the anchor read the names out loud, she did not appear to realise the mistake.
Later in the broadcast, the station apparently became aware of the prank, saying, "These names were not accurate despite an NTSB official in Washington confirming them late this morning. We apologize for the error."
The National Transportation Safety Board also issued an apology, blaming an intern for the public relations disaster.
"NTSB apologizes for inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed as those of the pilots of Asiana flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6," said a written statement.
"Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft.
"The NTSB does not release or confirm the names of crewmembers or people involved in transportation accidents to the media. We work hard to ensure that only appropriate factual information regarding an investigation is released and deeply regret today's incident.
"Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated."
Three passengers died since the crash in which Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed while landing at San Francisco International Airport, with the accident leaving more than 180 others injured.
