The Malays....set up for failure.

Berita Daily

"For as long as Umno has political power, the Malays, Islam and Malaysia too will continue to fail, for that is the structure of Umno politics"

Hussein Hamid

For Umno to succeed, the Malays must fail. Islam must fail. Racial harmony must fail. 1Malaysia must fail. Malaysia itself must fail...for has not Umno insists that even after five decades of political hegemony they are still needed by the Malays because the Malays have yet to succeed, by Islam because it is under threat from Christianity and by Malaysia because  our nation is still not a high income developed nation? Najib and his cohorts insist that after five decades in government Umno still needs more time in government to 'finish their work'.

Why? Is Umno incompetent at government? Do you seriously think that any political entity with over three million members, seemingly unlimited cash reserves in a political arena where "Cash is King", the political will and the means to do as it deems fit in government and longevity in government is incompetent? Surely not!

Does it not stand to reason then that Umno and the Barisan Nasional government they lead have, from the very beginning, set us all up for failure to ensure their political longevity at the expense of all things Malaysian?

Think of it: If the Malays are already at the top of the food chain in Malaysia, if Islam dominates because Christianity is no longer a threat to its survival, if 1Malaysia is a reality and Malaysia is already a high-income and developed nation, then Umno's work is done, is it not?

Umno does not want to put themselves out of government by allowing the Malays, Islam and Malaysia to succeed for Umno is surely that bastion for the Malays, for Islam, for Malaysia and all Malaysians against failure, not the cause of it!

Let us look at the Malays.

“Give man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”

Five decades of Malay political dominance through Umno, and in spite of Ketuanan Melayu and their Bumiputera status, the Malays have yet to learn how to fish!

Berita Daily : Does the Opposition deserve your support?

Berita Daily

Malaysians should not be blind to the inability of the opposition to hold themselves together

In these past few weeks or so I have been getting emails that tell me, in more ways than one, that I seems to be flirting my way towards Umno, towards Barisan Nasional.

I seems to drift towards highlighting what is wrong with Pakatan Rakyat/Pakatan Harapan rather than focus on “hantaming” Umno/BN.

"Why" they asked, "must I persist on going on about the break up of Pakatan Rakyat when everyone is focused on that donation and 1MDB?"

Why indeed!

I have written enough on 1MDB and on Najib, and more will be written by me as and when new stuff emerges from the odious bowels of Umno and BN.

But I will not be blind to the inability of the opposition (whoever they may be as they continue to splinter and squabble among themselves) to hold themselves together.

What more, with their inability to put Najib and Umno out of their present misery by taking the opportunity to show the electorates that the opposition is a credible alternative to the present BN government, and galvanize the Malaysian public into showing their contempt and disgust at the manner this BN government is conducting itself.

Do you not agree that there has never been a better time than this for the opposition to seize the moment and show to us all their ability to lead Malaysia?

But Pakatan Rakyat is no more! Instead Pakatan Rakyat which was given the mandate by the rakyat to push for a change in government has now handed that mandate back to Barisan Nasional by default.

And it tells a lot about what those former allies within Pakatan Rakyat would have done if they had won the last general election.

While those in the opposition continue with their petty mudslinging against each other, Barisan Nasional goes from strength to strength in spite of a leadership that borders on the Idi Amin/Gaddafi/Marcos genre.

Common sense tells me that for the next few decades BN will govern. They will govern using race, religion and political power to advance their personal agenda at the expense of the rakyat.

So if you are still asking why I am drifting towards BN, ask yourself if the opposition is deserving of your support, or even your pity.

God help us all!

Berita Daily : Is unity an exercise in futility for top PKR trio?

Berita Daily

What compounds the misfortunes of PKR today is that Wan Azizah continues to divide and rule opposing factions within the coalition rather than be a force for unification

Hussein Hamid

Unlike PAS where dissent within its rank has gone beyond hope of any reconciliation, dissent within PKR ferments but has yet to irrevocably split asunder what Anwar Ibrahim has put together. But is it not ironic that Anwar Ibrahim, who could put together so adroitly the coalition of the unwilling (that included DAP and PAS!), chose to divide and rule within his PKR?

Predictably, this is also a trait that, to her own detriment, Wan Azizah has now made her own as president of PKR.

What is true today within PKR is that its 'First Family' whose patriarch is currently incarcerated in Sungai Buloh can no longer do as they wish with impunity. Not after Kajang, not after the Selangor MB debacle and certainly not after its patriarch's ill-advised dalliances with Saiful that has resulted in his incarceration.

You can fault Najib in the manner he too, eagerly embraces gutter politics to do Anwar in, but there is no denying that Anwar himself was the architect of the circumstance that made it all possible.

What compounds the misfortunes of PKR today is that Wan Azizah continues to divide and rule opposing factions within PKR rather than be a force for its unity. Wan Azizah needs unison within PKR but instead, by her deeds encourage division. If this continues, then her position will become untenable, for surely as leader, her role is to unite not divide.

Within the Pakatan Rakyat 'coalition' that may or may not have met its demise recently, PAS has not honoured decisions made on their behalf by their representative Mat Sabu at various Pakatan Rakyat presidential meetings pre-2013... meetings where Hadi had absented himself.

There have also been engagements between PAS and Umno in the recent past but any attempt to second guess the nature and focus of these engagements would, at worst, be pure drivel, and at best conjectures. These engagements certainly have caused disquiet, more so in DAP than in PKR. Now whether these engagements will result in PAS joining Umno vacillates between the devil and the deep blue sea. Damm if they do and damm if they don't.

But for now DAP, PAS and PKR are on the same side of the divide. Hence any spillover affecting any of them - such as Amanah and PAS - will need to be kept within the 'opposition' family if an opposition coalition is to have relevance and resonance with a public whose 'accepted truth' is that Pakatan Rakyat is the opposition that will face Barisan Nasional in the next election. How Pakatan Harapan will overcome that 'truth' would be interesting to see.

The immediate task at hand for Wan Azizah - the 'presumed leader' of any opposition coalition - is to put her own PKR in order by identifying the priorities she needs to deal with now rather than later.

PKR must first work at consolidating their precarious position in Selangor. It has to win more seats in Selangor and not depend on DAP or PAS to hold on to Selangor. It must govern in its own right in Selangor. To this end Azmin Ali cannot be seen by Wan Azizah as a problem in Selangor and within PKR. He is part of the solution.

Factionalism within PKR is the problem.

Berita Daily : Today Azmin is leader of PKR in everything but name. He has not been tainted by the Selangor MB debacle. He, not Azizah, has the numbers in PKR to get what he wants done.

Is there a revolt brewing within PKR?
What deal will be struck to have Anwar as the PM designate should the opposition somehow manage to win a general election?
We are told that DAP and PKR are in talks, re the formation of Pakatan Harapan without PAS. Let me rephrase that to allow ordinary folk to understand what is really happening.

Lim Kit Siang and Anwar Ibrahim, through Anwar's proxy/wife/alter ego, are in discussions to ensure that Anwar will be the designated Prime Minister should a DAP and PKR coalition (with anybody else) win a general election....any general election!

If Anwar, for whatever reason (Sungai Buloh included) cannot be PM, then Azizah will be his proxy PM/will be PM until Anwar can be PM/Azizah will be PM and do as Anwar bids her to do. Tick whichever of the above is, in your opinion, applicable.

Yes folks, it is not DAP and PKR who are discussing these things - it is Kit Siang and Anwar. Numero uno on their agenda is: What deal will DAP and PKR have to do with each other to have Anwar as the designated PM should the opposition somehow manage to win a general election!

If it means keeping PAS out of Pakatan Rakyat for Kit Siang to endorse Anwar as the designated PM, Azizah will agree! And damn what anybody else wants! That is why there is a revolt fermenting within PKR.

There are enough elements within PKR who will tell the Anwar's family that nepotism is a not in the best interest of PKR. Do these elements have the numbers to succeed in what they want to do? Well for starters, 25 members of the MPP have signed on the dotted line to ask Azizah to explain why her 'bikin' (deed) is different from her 'cakap' (word).

The issue at hand is simply this: 1 Anwar wants to be PM. 2 DAP wants PAS out of the coalition. 3 PKR wants PAS included in any opposition coalition.

No ambiguity in issue number one: Anwar Ibrahim wants to be PM.

Issue number two: DAP wants PAS out for a number of reasons. Bottom line, DAP does not need PAS to hold on to, and to govern Penang and there is bad blood between Kit Siang and Hadi (like school kids fighting at interval over petty things!)
Issue number three: PKR needs PAS to hold on to and govern Selangor.

Anything else bandied about by anyone else is pure gobbledygook...pure 'tempoyak' or 'budu' i.e. preferred by some but dismissed by the many others.

If you think there are shades of the Selangor MB melodrama here...you are right! Remember? Unable to be MB, Anwar wanted to keep it all in the family and wanted Azizah to be MB in his place. They had they numbers, so they said; They had the support of DAP and PKR, they said; all done bar the Fat Lady singing, they said!

'No!' said the Sultan, 'No!' said PAS, Yes!' said Azmin. End of story. Finito! Azizah out. Azmin became MB!

Same situation today with Pakatan Harapan but Azmin Ali is no longer the same Azmin of the pre-MB Selangor days. Today Azmin is leader of PKR in everything but name. He has not been tainted by the Selangor MB debacle. He, not Azizah, has the numbers in PKR to get what he wants done.

To hold on to and govern Selangor, Azmin needs PAS. Azmin will have PAS!

Damn the people of Selangor

That is if you believe that when it comes to putting the matter to the rank and file within PKR to vote for PAS' exclusion or inclusion in any new coalition of the opposition, it really is PKR and not Anwar Ibrahim who will finally decide!
