Stadium Merdeka no-go for Bersih, says Rais
July 06, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — The Cabinet has decided not to allow Bersih to use Stadium Merdeka as the venue for its planned rally on July 9.
Two reasons were given for the decision: the group is not registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and safety concerns.
The Bersih movement said earlier today it had chosen Stadium Merdeka to reflect the “scale and centrality” of their issue calling for free and fair elections.
A report by national news agency Bernama quoted Minister of Information, Communications and Culture, Datuk Seri Rais Yatim(picture), as saying that following the advice of the Attorney-General’s Chambers as well as that of the government, the electoral reform movement’s application to use either Stadium Merdeka or Stadium Negara on July 9 had been rejected.
Rais added that Bersih should seek out other stadiums or locations such as Kelantan or Selangor to hold its rally this Saturday.

The audacity of this Prime Minister of ours to be able to lie not only to the Bersih Activist but also to involve the King in his duplicity!
What will now happen to this Bersih rally is academic! Whether it will take place at Stadium Merdeka or not at all will be for the people to decide - but we know now that Najib and his goons will do all they can to physically stop this rally from happening. "All they can" means PDRM and the Army. All leave has been cancelled and the Army are on standby. Some units have already been deployed around the major urban areas. This is why Army camps are strategically located to prevent large movement of the Rakyat in and out of urban areas to prevent the kind of gathering that Bersih 2.0 will generate.
This is a government that is prepared to shoot and kill its own people to make a point. And their point is this : Do as we say or else.....Oh my country bleed if you must! When this is over we will be stronger for it and our resolve to rid ourselves of this plague call UMNO/BN will harden.God willing. Insha'Allah.
I have to say this is too much ... the government should not make it that obvious that they want to stop all this at all cost... oh god...
ReplyDeleteBlame the stupid King.
ReplyDeleteHe was with them all along.
They used him and they will use him again.
The speech, the so called audience with Ambiga, all these are sandiwara.
