Chief Sitting Bull and UMNO

A horrible realization is setting in upon me. Are we on the eve of destruction?

"Hear me, people: We have now to deal with another race – small and feeble when our fathers first met them, but now great and overbearing. Strangely enough they have a mind to till the soil and the love of possession is a disease with them. These people have made many rules that the rich may break but the poor may not. They take their tithes from the poor and weak to support the rich and those who rule".Chief Sitting Bull.

How eloquently Chief Sitting Bull put it. For Sitting Bull it was the U.S Army that continually invaded his territory creating problems for his people.

In Malaysia it is UMNO that is doing to us what the U.S. did to Sitting Bull. UMNO harass and continues to invade the personal space of its own people in order to protect their own interest.

The same UMNO that in 1946 – a year before I was born – came into being.

This same UMNO became an “Alliance” with the Malayan Chinese Association in 1954, and in the same year in state elections won 226 out of the 268 seats nation wide.

In 1955 the Alliance – now expanded to include the Malayan Indian Congress – won 51 of the 52 seats contested in state elections and Tunku became Chief Minister of Malaya.

Much water has passed under the bridge since then. Fast forward to today and we now have an UMNO that has become that  ‘race’ that Sitting Bull talks about! That ‘race’ that is now :

·      'great and overbearing'
·      'Love of possession is a disease to them'
·      'Made many rules that the rich may break but the
        poor may not'
·      'take tithes from the poor and weak to support the
        rich and those who rule'.

That ‘race’ is what UMNO has become! The rape by UMNO of our nation is almost done and yet they will surely come back  for second helpings. And they have done all this legally!

And now what is UMNO embarking upon? What is their next insidious agenda?

What they have done to the Malays they now want to do to the non-Malays! Just look at what is happening today!

It starts with the handing out of RM500 1Malaysia’s People’s Assistance (BR1M) to household earning a monthly income of RM3,000 and below nationwide.

And in Pekan 328 UPSR pupils and 146 PMR students received RM200 each contributed by the Pahang Foundation.

How long before the non-Malays become addicted to this culture of getting something for nothing? How long before these non-Malays become Pavlov dogs? How long will it take and how many billions of ringgits will have to be given out in hand outs before these non-Malays become ‘conditioned’ to receiving something for nothing from UMNO? How long before these same people reacts by voting UMNO without thinking of the consequences?

It is highly irresponsible of this UMNO led Barisan Nasional government to conditioned the non-Malays to be what they have made the Malays to be – addicted to being spoon fed.

Muhyiddin recently said that among the strategies were plans to expand people-focused initiatives, such as the 1Malaysia Clinic, Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia and, most recently, the 1Malaysia Rakyat Menu, a programme encouraging food vendors to offer package meals with a maximum price of RM2 for breakfast and RM4 for lunch.

The government had also announced the NKRAs on rural basic infrastructure (RM5.1 billion) and urban public transport (RM1 billion).

The government had absorbed almost RM22 million in subsidies to lessen the people's burden.

And all these initiatives are for what?

To lessen the people’s burden?

To lessen the people’s burden caused by over 50 years of UMNO’s thievery, pillaging and plundering of our nation’s resources?

If it is so then why not WE stop this thievery, pillaging and plundering by UMNO NOW instead of allowing them to use  our nation’s wealth (whatever is left of it!) to cover their abuses of the trust we have placed in them to govern us in our interest instead of theirs!

In these last few months Najib have gone on an irresponsible orgy of spending our nation’s money to buy the Rakyat’s votes in the coming 13th general elections. It is not enough that they have given millions of pendatangs the right of citizenship and the right to vote (hopefully for UMNO) but they now compound that opportunistic deed by insulting the Rakyat through these RM$500 pay outs in a blatant attempt at bribery of the most vulnerable of our people – the low income group!

All this is a done deal and there really is nothing we can do to stop what this UMNO led Barisan Nasional government is doing in their desperate bid to hang on to power after the 13th general election.

But this much Pakatan Rakyat can and should do.

Explain to the Rakyat what a Pakatan Rakyta will do to give much needed economic relief to those amongst us with low incomes when they govern. Not just the lowering of fuel prices but more important explain to these people the massive savings to be had once UMNO’s is out of government and unable to continue with their abuse of this nation’s money. And where these savings will go! Back to the people in the form of a lowering of essential food prices and into low cost housing and education. This might seem elementary to most of us but not to the people who are now lining up for the hand outs being given by this Barisan Nasional government.

And this is what Pakatan Rakyat is now lacking. An inability to do what is needed on the ground  to counter Barisan Nasional very effective propaganda – a very expensive propaganda but nevertheless it is still propaganda! Because we must not forget that every recipient of these hand outs are voters – you can be assured that UMNO has already worked that out!

And it would seem from the recent third Pakatan Rakyat convention that they are still waiting to be moved towards working in this direction. Still unable to deal with Anwar recent acquittal. As Hawkeye aptly out it ‘All sound and fury but no substance’.

Their leader Anwar needs to understand that the battle is here on the ground in Malaysia. We understand that there is a need for Anwar to maintain a profile globally but please do not get carried away with delusions of grandeur of being a towering global figure crusading for Western democratic values and gay rights when the real battle will be in such places as Marang, Sabak Bernam, Kalabakan, Jasin, Kemaman, Kapit, Permatang Pauh, Betong, Arau, Bera, Jempol, Lipis, Tuaran, Jeli, Kubang Kerian….all not exactly household names to the USA or those in the Middle East but still critical to victory in the 13th general elections if Pakatan Rakyat is to be in government!

Our concern is that Pakatan Rakyat will take their eye of the ball. Against UMNO that could prove fatal. Against UMNO all they need is an excuse to swoop into Pakatan Rakyat’s lair and inflict deadly harm on whom so ever they can without regards for anything else but victory at the 13th general election.

Knowing what UMNO have done in the past is it not prudent that Pakatan Rakyat now take us all into their confidence and do this together – this business of ABU!

We know that Najib has Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Rosmah  to contend with but he still attempts to reach out to the young and the people of Malaysia through his many initiatives and transformation programs.

We know that Najib is having to contend with difficult economic circumstances but he still attempts to reach out to the poor and the needy by giving out financial assistance.

We know that Najib is under immense pressure to take back the two thirds majority UMNO and Barisan Nasional lost at the 12th general election but he still finds time to blog, watch Manchester United and go bicycling once in a while.

That he has not totally succeed in these endeavours is beside the point. The point is that he tries!

Now that Sodomy Two is, for now, out of the way, we await what Anwar will do to stop being too Presidential and a globe trotting personality and start the process of doing a ‘Najib’ with an eye on the coming 13th general election for are we not now already on the eve of destruction?

"How many times must a man look up,
before he sees the sky?
And how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry ?
And how many deaths will it take till we know,
that too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind"

  1. Very pertinent point your wrote here but will he heed you? At the moment he seems too be to happy to play to the gallery and not counter the headway BN is making via money politics to the nation's poor.

  2. Sir,

May the strong ones help the weak. Look not for perfection but the best amongst the lot.

In our case, it is Pakatan Rakyat by a wide margin. DSAI should be given the chance to lead. If he doesn't perform, we will kick them out in 5 years.

Theoretically it is that simple. Now let us make it a reality.

  3. Many many years ago LKY said in the Malaysian parliament that we have to teach a person to fish so that he can fish on his own. He was cut down for saying that.

Then he took back his country and taught his folks to fish on their own. They can fish anywhere in the world.

Our guys still wait for the free fish and cannot even fish in their own rivers and seas. Sad. Very sad.

  4. "Chief Sitting Bull and UMNO"

An election is coming. Universal peace is declared, and the foxes have a sincere interest in prolonging the lives of the poultry...!

Politics is ugly. Never doubt what small men will do for great power...

Democracy is the state of affairs in which you consent to having your pocket picked, and elect the best man to do it.

Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice, Politics without principles…

In Bolehland, Jibby & his ilks will promise to build bridges even when there are no rivers…!

If you put the Federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be shortage of sand...!

Remember the most important political office is that of the private citizen.

    Shalom.

  5. Tq, steadyaku47 for adding your voice to the chorus of advice as to what's appropriate for Anwar to seize the moment.
Yet, I cannot believe the politician in Anwar is not aware of the right action at this point in time.
Well, we can only say that - Anwar has been forewarned, he cannot claim ignorance of what the rakyat expects of him!!

  9. This is a very sound advice for Pakatan Rakyat in general and DSAI in particular. I hope DSAI will not just ignore this suggestion as it can prove fatal to all who want to see the gomen changed.
