"War is the continuation of Politik by other means"- Carl Philipp Gottfried von Clausewitz[1]  Two Police Commandos laid down their lives to protect our land, at this time this number might have risen as one of the injured might have also died. The two Malaysian police commandos killed are Inspector Zulkifli Mamat and Corporal Sabarudin Daud.They sacrificed their all. I will honor them by not posting anything for two weeks. I salute them. My sincere condolences to their families. What I am angry about is they did not have to lose their lives if only our politicians had some spine. As Clausewitz said "War is a continuation of Politics".  You think our PM, Defence Minister or the great Home Minister have ever heard of  that saying?  What were our politicians thinking? The Police did not have the assets to destroy them.  Those Sulu pirates were with automatic weapons and mortars, which killed two of our people.  They had frigging mortars, for f***sake!! Najib and company were handling these terrorists with kid gloves, using the Police who are trained to handle internal security situations like the Bersih or Hindraf rally. Hishamuddin is only good at raising his Keris at the  UMNO rally.  An issue of territorial occupation in which Malaysia should have sent in the Army in the first place but instead due to some chicken brained Ministers we expect the Police and Immigration authorities to handle it with kid gloves. Look at what happened? Leading three weeks into the controversy, it blew up in the Home Minister's face  Will the Home Minister take responsibility for the deaths of these brave men, as he did not hand over the tasks to the Military. The Police are not trained to launch attacks on enemy locations, where the enemy fires back. It is not a Bersih rally. They do not have Mortars, Artillery, Infantry Fighting Vehicles or Special Forces skilled in Reconnaissance, Air Force and Navy. One of the principles of attack is, "the momentum of the attack must be maintained".  There will be more casualties as they did not observe this principle. I doubt the Police have any inkling of that.  The Military knows that. It should be the job of the Military as it is an external threat, they are equipped and trained for this. This should be handled by the 5th Brigade Commander without sparing all the niceties. This is the Defense Minister’s baby, apparently he is AWOL and still  nowhere to be seen. Lastly the stand off is not over. This blog will be at half mast for two weeks.

I am speaking as a retired military officer who knows a bit about how military operations should be conducted in an event of an external threat or aggression.

The Lahad Datu incident is to my mind a clear example of an incursion by external armed elements. That being so, the correct action was to adopt a military option, not a political one. In the first instant, I do not know how were they able to incurse without being noticed. This itself calls for a thorough investigation and the blame must stop at those who are tasked to protect our shoreline.

Now it has been more than two weeks and with no solution in sight. Just imagine, we already have on our shores about 100 armed foreign elements whom our political masters claimed are neither terrorist or militants. I just simply do not understand how politicians defines a terrorist and militants. Are they to start shooting and killing people and it will only be then that they be called terrorist and militants?

My concern is that if they were able to land 100 armed men onto our shores unnoticed, what is stopping them from incursing another 100 more? And I believe that is what will happened if this incident is not resolved quickly. With that number of armed men, this will pose a difficult problem for the authorites to solve.

From the military point of view, a well trained group of even 100 armed men will require substantial resources in men, material and equipment of the three services of the Armed Forces. My question would then be.......is our Armed Forces ready and able to undertake a military option, if ordered to? I would like to leave this to be answered by the experts.
