Shahrir Samad : Another one bites the dust

When in 1973 Shahrir became the political secretary to Musa Hiram, some of Musa Hitam's bad habits rub off onto Sharir....and this he indulged in much too much when in 1987 he became the Federal Territory Minister at the age of 38....nudge nudge wink wink.

Like all recalcitrant politicians, Sharir was sacked from Umno in 1986 as part of the fallout from Ku Li challenge to Mahathir. In 1988, Shahrir resigned from his Parliamentary seat, and ran for re-election in the resulting by-election as an independent. A year later, he rejoined UMNO.

There was a time in 2006 when Sharir stood up against the powers that be "to maintain the integrity of parliamentarians and Parliament" and resigned as chairman of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club....but I guess those days are but a distant memory to Sharir.

The last I heard of him when I was still in KL was that he had a dhoby shop somewhere. And recently I heard that Sharir did put up his hands as one of those getting a RM1 million worth of dedak from Najib!

And now he has gone in hook, line and sinker for Najib with this appointment as Chairman of Felda....and why not...at around RM$50K a month that is not to be sneezed at!

Well I guess the dhoby business is not as lucrative as Felda can be! Good for you brother....but do remember that boast you made when you tendered in your resignation as Chairman of the  Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club....that you did so "to maintain the integrity of parliamentarians and Parliament" .....I hope brother that as Chairman of Felda, you will have the welfare and good of the penoreka at heart and not those who are giving you the dedak!
