PENANG: Malaysia's
number one badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei has donated RM25,000 to
save the life of a six-month-old baby, surnamed Lee, who needed an
immediate heart surgery, Guang Ming Daily reported.
The six-month-old, Lee Pei Ying was
reportedly suffering from congenital abnormality of the heart and had
been sent to a private hospital for an immediate scheduled operation.
However, the family were required to pay the sum as an additional deposit before the procedure due to a complication.
According to sources, the baby’s father,
Lee Hock Boon, was felling anxious over the money and decided to seek
help from the national shuttler as he could not raise such a huge amount
of money within a short period.
“Chong Wei called or texted me daily
after my daughter's surgery last Tuesday to get updates on her
condition,” the daily reported Hock Boon as saying.
“He sent RM25,000 to the hospital within 15 minutes,” he added.
It was reported that the baby girl has been discharged from hospital and has gone back to Penang for healing process.
