Honorary doctorate for Sultan of Pahang
KUANTAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) will confer an honorary doctorate on the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, at the university’s commemorative convocation on Saturday.
The honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering will be conferred by UMP chancellor, the Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
UMP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim said the conferment was in recognition of the sultan’s contribution to the development of Pahang and the nation.
“He really takes interest in making sure that development projects are beneficial to the people,” he said in a statement.
Among those expected at the convocation are the Sultanah of Pahang, Sultanah Kalsom; Tengku Puan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.(p.s all the usual suspects!) -- Bernama

Ahhh ...bestowed by his son ....audienced by relatives ...what a happy family .... my eyes are weeping !
I posted that about 30 mins ago and I still have a smile on my face...it is 3.16am here in adelaide and I know that when I go to sleep I will still have a smile thinking about this...maybe even when I wake up esok!
ReplyDeleteThis conferrment is a joke as much as that of one given to Tun Jeanne ...not surprising really as Malaysians need tonnes of laughter as our remedy to deviate us from the path of temporal insanity

Sometime it makes me wonder why the need or accept those honorary degrees. The same goes to some dato, dato seri, tan sri and the rest.
ReplyDeleteFor the rest of us, we earn the first degree by acquiring the applicable branch of knowledge. Master degree of deeper knowledge in the field of interest while the Phd's for a research discipline. Of course, these are is just a simplistic view.
The various degree prepare us to undertake the task or job that are at hand ... generally, to earn a living and to make a place for a society to live better.
Now, why does some of those need so many honorary degrees or state conferred titles when one is already doing the job and had earn a living ... must be inferiority complex person, I guess.

...add to that a Hon Doc for brilliant business strategy in being able to fleece the richest man on earth by not paying for his airplane on the grounds that the Sultan of Brunei did not need the money. (Even Madoff couldn't have made off with such a coup.)

Also the ability to siphon money from a public funded project... now that shows a razor sharp intellect. Who outside of UMNO coulda dreamt up such a hustle.
And now the same Univ from which he curi the doit, is plastering him with a doctorate! And we thought he was not bright.
But despite all that brilliance, I think his doctorate is awarded on more proasic grounds.
He knows how to play cricket for the UMNO warlords. Didn't he recently go in to bat for Barisan Nasional since only it can bring more economic, social, economic and educational development to the royals, I mean the rakyat.
You don't have to be able to write a single sentence to earn a doctorate in bolehland.
Just carry the right bat.
