KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian showed a complete disregard for parliamentary freedom when he filed a lawsuit against the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, in a statement here yesterday, said Hee’s action had tarnished the good name of the Dewan Rakyat.
“As a lawmaker, the PKR member of parliament must be aware of what the Federal Constitution says about the rights and privileges of Parliament.”
Azalina said the action was a deliberate attempt to make the issue a polemic as there were other ways that it could have been done, including by submitting a proposal to the Speaker.
“The issue raised had been explained by the Speaker in a press conference last week,” she added.
Pandikar expressed regret that the MP had dragged him to court after his two questions related to 1MDB in parliament were rejected. – Bernama
