TERMINALLY ILL 'SIMPSONS' CO-CREATOR PLEDGES FORTUNE TO CHARITY
The Hollywood ReporterJuly 27, 2013, 8:54 am
Sam Simon, the co-creator of "The Simpsons" who was recently diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, has decided to leave his entire fortune to charity, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The 58-year-old nine-time Emmy winner, who has no wife or children, is no stranger to philanthropy. His Sam Simon Foundation provides meals for families experiencing economic hardship and rescues dogs from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia. Over the years, Simon has made considerable donations to groups such as PETA and Save the Children.
When asked about his fortune, Simon told the Hollywood Reporter that he doesn’t know the full extent of his wealth but continues to earn “tens of millions” in royalties from "The Simpsons" every year.
“The truth is, I have more money than I’m interested in spending,” he said. “Everyone in my family is taken care of. And I enjoy this.”
While Simon’s doctors say he has only a few months to live, the limited time appears to have sharpened his philanthropic focus. Simon told the Hollywood Reporter that he won’t contribute to charities that don’t — in his opinion — produce enough results.
“One of the things about animal rights, which is not the only thing that I care about in this world, is that your money can bring success,” he said. “I see results. There is stuff happening, really good stuff, every week. I'm not sure you get that with a lot of disease charities.”
In addition to charity, Simon continues to work in television, spending a half-day per week with the writing team of FX’s "Anger Management" series.

MALAYSIA COURT QUASHES HINDU KIDS' CONVERSION TO ISLAM

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - A Malaysian court on Thursday ruled against the 2009 conversion of three Hindu children to Islam without their mother's knowledge, a verdict welcomed by non-Muslim groups.
A high court in the northern city of Ipoh declared the conversion of Indira Gandhi's children, now aged five, 15 and 16, by their father to be unconstitutional, said Indira's lawyer K. Shanmuga.
The judge ruled that the father had failed to take the mother and children to Islamic authorities for their consent to the conversion, in a rare verdict in the multiracial but Muslim-majority nation, Shanmuga said.
"It is the first time ever that a child's conversion certificate has been quashed by a high court," he told AFP.
Indira, a kindergarten teacher in her late 30s, faced losing custody of her children after her husband converted himself and them without her knowledge.
Under Malaysian sharia law, which governs civil matters for Muslims, a non-Muslim parent cannot share custody of converted children.
Indira, a Hindu, got a 2010 high court verdict to award her custody. But her husband went into hiding with their youngest daughter and the conversion remained in dispute.
Earlier this month Malaysia withdrew an Islamic law which allows one parent to give consent for a child's conversion, after an outcry.
Opponents said it discriminated against minorities despite government promises to address their grievances.
Religious groups welcomed Thursday's verdict.
"We are very happy about that decision. But it must be accepted by all the Islamic and other government agencies," said Mohan Shan, an official with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism.
Conversions of children and "body-snatching" cases -- in which Islamic authorities tussle with families over the remains of people whose religion is disputed -- have previously raised tensions.
More than 60 percent of Malaysia's 28 million people are Muslim ethnic Malays, but it also has sizeable Chinese and Indian minorities who are non-Muslims.Beijing KFC ice cubes ‘have more bacteria than toilet water’
Share:
“Would you like a coke with ice or a glass of water from the toilet? For your health sake, we recommend the latter.” KFC, McDonald’s and Kungfu would not have gone far with such a slogan, but their Chinese customers may have been better informed: if what was reported last Saturday by Chinese broadcaster CCTV is true, ice cubes sold by their outlets in Chongwenmen district, Beijing, contain more bacteria than the water in their toilet bowls.
The broadcaster reportedly tested ice cubes, discovering that bacteria concentration in KFC ice cubes was 19 times higher than China’s standard for drinking water and 12 times higher than samples taken from its toilets. According to the report, the amount of bacterial colonies found in Chinese chain Kungfu ice cubes was six times higher than toilet water, while McDonald’s ice fared better than the bathroom but was still below drinking standard.
Chinese fast food fans are not impressed by the latest revelations. Pic: AP.
Bad news if you like to crunch ice after drinking your coke. And an equally grim story for the mentioned companies, especially as news tends to behave just like bacteria: it spreads. As of today at around 11am, the original comment by CCTV had been reposted 186,927 times. On Sunday, KFC wrote on its Weibo account that it is “very sorry this has happened” and assured that the company’s quality control department is checking the suspected outlets. Kungfu and McDonald’s have humbled themselves with apologies too.
But it is hard to see how this will not end in more dissatisfaction among fast-food fans, even more so after other cases of scant regard for health safety were recorded in the past. Last year, Yum Brands – which owns KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell – found itself in the eye of the storm as CCTV reported that chicken meat served by its stores contained more antibiotics than laws allow. KFC issued an apology, said it would look into the case and saw its sales fall. It also had to face a wave of criticism on social websites.
Not surprisingly, Weibo is teeming with posts on the latest grim discovery. “From this day on, I swear I won’t eat KFC or McDonald’s anymore!!!” says one user. “Apologizing means nothing, how come the government supervision department didn’t discover it?” contends another netizen. Some – as it is often the case on Chinese social media – find time to make fun: “it’s time for KFC to pay a protection fee to CCTV.”
Besides safety concerns, a likely reason for the strong reactionis that Chinese consumers often look at foreign brands as a safe haven amid local bad practices. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the dairy market, a sector where international brands have enjoyed very favorable conditions after a tainted milk scandal in 2008 which caused the death of six children and sickened over 300,000. According to China Daily, in recent times prices of baby milk powder produced by foreign companies have grown faster and faster as a result of strong demand, a proof that people are willing to pay more for better quality. But they get all the more angry if they feel cheated, as happened last year, when food scandals involving Carrefour and McDonalds sparked an outrage.
In any case, ice cubes are an issue well beyond China. On June 1, the British Daily Mailreported it had found that “ice from branches of McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Starbucks, Cafe Rouge and Nando’s all had higher levels of bacteria than samples of water taken from their lavatory bowls.” In both the UK and China the problem could be that the ice was contaminated by staff upon touching it or that ice machines are not cleaned as often as toilets. Well, at least the bathrooms are clean.

cakap cakap....OLD MAN WITH VERY YOUNG GIRL......such is life when you have money!
Wanna see a 72 year old man with
a 20 year old girlfriend? Just for the record that white hair guy above is older...much older!
ENJOY!
Shield your eyes! Roberto Cavalli is given a VERY personal
hose down by his much younger girlfriend
PUBLISHED: 14:28 GMT, 18 June 2013 | UPDATED: 00:38 GMT, 19 June 2013
It may look like glamorous Lina Nilson is providing community service aboard
an exotic retirement boat.
But the brunette beauty - who is in her 20s - is actually helping her boyfriend Roberto Cavalli shower off on a particularity hot day in Sardinia.
The lovers have been sailing around on 72-year-old Roberto's luxurious super-yacht, with the fashion designer being intimately hosed down for all to see and without a care in the world.
Cooling off: Roberto Cavalli enjoyed a loving outdoor shower with his girlfriend Lina Nilson on his private yacht in Sardinia on Monday
Well known for wearing very little in the sun during his downtime, Roberto didn't disappoint his fans as he stepped out wearing a very short pair of swimming trunks.
With a reasonably in-shape body for a gentleman of his age, the elderly Italian was proud to show off his sagging features for an outdoor shower.
Meanwhile girlfriend Lina was more than happy to oblige with his request as she stood with hose in hand wearing a black bikini top and animal print bottoms.
Very dutiful: Lina didn't seem to mind giving Roberto a hand to freshen up
A good clean: Roberto made sure he got to his most intimate parts to get refreshed in the afternoon sun
But things got rather unsightly when it came time for Roberto to freshen up his lower regions.
And the pair were willing to show off just how intimate they are with each other as Roberto exposed himself to his younger lover and she happy gave a helping hand to clean his private areas.
With his body reasonably tanned, the designer flashed his white bottom for the world to see as Lina got in and gave him a very personal rub down.
Hands on: Lina got very involved in cleaning her aging lover out in the open air
Glamorous life: It is likely that Lina has touched Roberto much more intimately in the past so a hose down should not be an issue
Good Lord! The couple were completely unconcerned about being seen as Roberto flashed his buttocks in public
While most viewers would have been running screaming, the couple's pet dog seemed unconcerned by the event.
The animal was also hosed down as part of proceeding during the hot afternoon sun.
Shower show aside, the couple seemed very happy to be in each others company.
Wet dog: Roberto's pet pooch was also given a hose down in the hot afternoon sun
Something funny? Lina was spotted in fits of hysterics as she relaxed with Roberto on his boat in the afternoon
Perhaps demonstrating he is a secret comedian, Roberto talked to his lover as she rolled around on the deck in fits of hysterics.
While he is notorious for wearing next to nothing, the designer did recently pass judgement upon the Dutchess of Cambridge - commenting that she should be more alluring with her style choices.
‘A princess should be sexy,’ he told Vogue magazine, before adding: ‘She is young, she is
beautiful. I would like to create something special for her.'
