Malaysia pays high price for political drama

Theatrical election battle between Mahathir and Najib will not resolve economic challenges

Malaysians might have hoped for a young new challenger to contest the coming parliamentary election and take on the 64-year-old scandal-plagued Prime Minister Najib Razak, who has held office for eight years.

Note : First do read the above article. My piece here is basically telling the writer William Pesek, what I think of what he has written about my county, my prime minister, my leader of the opposition Tun Dr Mahathir and about something I know more of, then he does. : Malaysia. 

I hope he takes these comments in the spirit that I have given it...and that is simply this....do not write about something you do not know much of, for when you do, there will invariably be someone like me, who will want it have his say about what you say about my country.

There is nothing much that William Pesek says in the above article that we do not already know...and not only do we not already know, but for most of us, we know more then what William Pesek knows. 

If Malaysian had hoped for a young new challenger to take on that 64-year-old Idiot of a prime minister, Malaysians would have found one. The reality is that there is no one on the horizon bar Tun Dr Mahathir who can do so.  Nothing gives more creedence to this reality then the fact that at 92, Tun Dr Mahathir is the only choice of Pakatan Harapan to lead them. There is consensus among all the component party within Pakatan Harapan that Tun Dr Mahathir would garner the popular vote from Malaysian at PRU 14.  In politics, if you do not have the numbers...you cannot win.  So Tun Dr Mahatrhir is not an "instead challenger" to that Idiot in Seri Perdana. He is the only credible choice to challenge that Idiot.

William Pesek tells us that "neither the contest, nor the result, is likely to reverse the once-promising economy's steady slip-slide off the world's centre stage'. I disagree. The state of our nation today is a direct correlation as to whom we have as prime minister. This is a fact of politics in Malaysia. Since Tun Razak days, the policies of the government was decided by the Umno led Barisan Nasional. And whomsoever leads Umno can make or break the state of our nation's economy. And by any criteria Pesek may choose to use, the Idiot has done more to increase the slip slide of the Malaysian economy off the world's centre stage then Mahathir has done. If we have the right prime minister, the slip slide will stop...so my dear Pesek, the choice of prime minister has a lot to do with stopping the slip slide of the Malaysian economy off the world's centre stage. 

This is no political theatre that you see before you Pesek. This is how we do politics in Malaysia. Not politics as you might know it in your country. Not politics as you might know it in the USA, Australia or the UK. It is not even politics that me and many millions of Malaysian want our politic to be. This is politics as we know it now in Malaysia. And yes I agree with you that the price Malaysia and Malaysian pay for this political process is excessive...in fact it is downright insane. No sane, rational logical Malaysians will tell you that we want to pay that high price. But me and the other Malaysian do not have say in as far as this PRU 14 is concerned. Go talk to that Mr and Mrs Idiot in Seri Perdana and ask them why that Idiot has to spend billions to  stay in office. 

But let me do the answering for him. 

When all you have within your self are deep pockets to pay people to elect you to political office...then of course the price is too high for our nation to bear as the billions that the Idiot is spending comes not from his own pocket but ours. So Pesek we KNOW what price we are paying...and that price that we pay you can see it being rolled out from the spoils of 1MDB and other similar scams involving our statutory bodies and our national coffers that this Idiot of a prime minister has been using to fund his personal and political agendas. 

But you did  come out with an observation I can agree with. You wrote that "Mahathir could be the only politician with the clout and tenacity to oust Najib". That is the reason why we choose a 92 year old Tun to do battle with that Idiot.

And again when you said "Malaysia must reduce the stifling role of government, shift toward high-value-added production, increase innovation and halt a brain drain caused by Chinese and Indian talent fleeing to Singapore and Hong Kong" I can only say this....yes Pesek, that too we already know. 

Once we have install a prime minister of OUR choice...any other needed change s in policy priorities, fresh thinking and whatever is needed to ensure our economic future will be something we and future generations of Malaysian can look forward to, then we the people who elected these leaders., will do the necessary to keep these bastards honest! 

Now Pesek, if you are  able to tell us, with some degree of certainity, as to whom, between Mahathir and that Idiot, will emerge victorious in PRU 14 .....that could be of interest to us Malaysians and probably give you licence to write another piece about my country, Malaysia in the not too distant future. 

I rest my case.

Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew is a chinese. He shut down all chinese schools from primary to secondary, and University of Nanyang, a chinese medium university. The founder and main sponsor, Tan Lark Sye, a philanthropist, was stripped off his citizenship by Lee Kuan Yew. Should we label Kuan Yew anti- chinese? 

No Prime Ministers from UMNO had ever shut down a chinese primary school in Malaysia. There are 1289 chinese primary schools in Malaysia and none in Singapore. There are 60 chinese independent schools and 72 chinese medium secondary schools in Malaysia and none in Singapore. There are 3 colleges namely New Era, Southern College and Han Chiang college that are founded by chinese in Malaysia and chinese language is the medium in these 3 colleges and none in Singapore.Why don't we curse Kuan Yew for eliminating chinese education from Singapore?

In Malaysia, there are 13 chinese newspapers, of which 6 papers in Peninsula and 7 in Sarawak and Sabah. All chinese newspapers in Malaysia are controlled by chinese businessmen. In recent years, chinese newspapers and other media are no longer required to renew their annual printing license.

In Singapore, all chinese newspapers previously controlled by chinese businessmen were forced to sell and merged as one under Singapore Press Holding, a 100% government controlled company. LianHe ZaoPao is currently the only chinese paper in Singapore.

We have approximately 90 bus consortiums in Malaysia. 70% are directly and openly controlled by chinese such as LCB, KKKL, 707, etc. In Singapore, all private bus companies previously owned by chinese families, ceased to operate. All were sold to SBS, a 100% government company.

There are 2 major banks in Singapore which are owned by chinese and the banks management were dominated by family run structure. All were forced by Lee Kuan Yew to adopt management by professional. UOB refused to adopt. OCBC adopted and ended family controlled. DBS is a government bank. Today, UOB shares traded 2 times higher than OCBC and DBS. In actual scenario, only 1 bank in Singapore is controlled by chinese!

There may be weaknesses in the system in Malaysia. But BN has allowed chinese education, culture and tradition to grow in our society compared to Singapore PAP. At least there are fewer banana men* in Malaysia than Singapore.

So tell me....do you really want Anwar or Mahathir to once again lead this country?

When you are prime minister anything you want and every wish you uttered are catered to immediately by those who are tasked to do your every bidding. Seri Perdana is where you go home to after a hard day at the office.  Your image is plastered all over the nation, and everything you do is reported in the main stream media, television stations and spoken of by many. You begin to believe in your own invincibility. You begin to believe that you can do no wrong, break no law. You begin to believe that you are indeed the heartbeat of your nation, the very air your people  need to live. You really believe that in you resides the hope of your people, the future of your nation and that you are the very essence of all that Malaysia is. 

Mahathir, Anwar Ibrahim, Abang Lah, KJ, among others, are people who are still around who would be able to understand and relate themselves to what I am saying...to what Najib is now experiencing. You begin to think that not only can you be God, but you can also speak as God, do as God and soon, God willing....you will be God!

And if you are the wife of Najib Razak you can, if you want, be Cleopatra, Queen Victoria, Joan of Arc, Margaret Thatcher and the most beautiful first lady of Malaysia all at once ...even if in reality you are an old fat hippo bitch who is height challenged!

Mahathir, Anwar, Abang Lah, KJ and many others of their genre have all had political power and then tasted humble pie. Some of them have wallowed in humble pie for many years since their fall from political power and are still up to their necks in it......but political power once tasted have a tendency to make one believe that what was once yours can still be yours again if circumstance and timing can be made to work in your favour....and so covertly or overtly they continue to pursue what they think is rightfully their right to once again be leaders of a country that no longer wants them and a people that has had their fill of them. Good luck to them. Nothing you or I can say will make they think or do otherwise. 

What would be an interesting exercise for us, is to watch closely the fortunes of Najib Razak and Rosmah in the coming months. 

Why in the coming months?

Anybody with half a brain (which covers most of who really do have half a brain!) can sense that Malaysia is now being pulled asunder by the blunders of the many contenders who are now vying to remain, or continue to be, the numero uno in Putrajaya. The time when each of them will be held to account and ask to account for what they have done in the name of political expedience  - whether for our benefit or for their own - draws near. 

Let us ignore those hangers on and those sad sub-humans whose periok nasi hangs on the fortunes of their chosen leaders, for these dregs of society will always be there no matter what happens. I am no longer persuaded by the utterances of politicians who are eager to play to the crowd that stands before them nor will I hold them to what they promise or put down on paper for the very same reason because the compulsion to say anything in order to advance their political interest is too overwhelming for these politicians to ignore. All these things considered....short of Najib taking government by other means than a general election...we can be assured that a general election will take place in the coming months. 

And in a general election where Umno can no longer with certainty, decide on it's outcome, it will be you and me, who will decide. 

So tell me....do you really want Anwar or Mahathir to once again lead this country? Do you want Umno to continue as the government of the day? Will you want a government of consensus? A government of the Malays for the Malays by the Malays? Do you still want that Bugis warrior to still be in Seri Perdana? Do you want Kit Siang and his DAP to be Kingmaker and once for all dictate a Malaysia they think we want? 

Whatever the outcome of this coming election we will indeed see change, for once awaken, the people will not be prepared to lie down again until these corrupt, self serving and arrogant leaders and their underlings are arrested, prosecuted and punished for what they have done in the name of government.....and I for one, will want to be in K Hell when that times comes.              

Do not think that these thoughts are not uppermost in the minds of Najib and Rosmah? Every brand new day brings hope to many Malaysian that their beloved Malaysia will soon be rid of the cancer of corruption and the bane of arrogant and self serving politicians...and yet that same brand new day brings dread to many politicians as the reality of having to account and be responsible for the things these politicians have done while serving king, country and it's people while in public office, nears.

For sure there is in all of us greed and arrogance but surely not in the doses present in these politicians of ours. For sure there are many of us who do wonder if they themselves might not succumb to the insane wealth on offer to these politicians and leaders....and what would we really do when push comes to shove? 

But these are all conjectures that we ask ourselves in moments of reflections and we will not share with anyone the real answers we give to ourselves. But the truth is this...these politicians live their lives on the promise they made to us of what they will be once we give them political power....and having been given that political power....they have failed us. Mahathir, Anwar, Pak Lah, KJ, Najib and many others have failed us in various degrees. So for those who live by the sword, it is fitting that they must die by the sword.....and for each and every one of them, they all know that their political lives now lies "dihujung pedang!". I will not beg for mercy for any of them. The spoils of political office for every one of them has been insane - wealth beyond their wildest dreams - and so when the time comes for them to take responsibility for their deeds, they and they alone will have to answer for what they have done....they and what their fancy and highly paid lawyers hired to defend them, will do to save their skin. 

I can promise you that that time will come. It came for Marcos, for the Shah of Iran, for Idi Amin, for Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi....and it will come for Najib and Rosmah and for all the others who have been responsible for the state of our nation today. Until then let us watch them unravel and see how they prepare themselves for the fate that awaits them : With courage or with fear? With utter contempt in the mistaken belief that they are beyond the long arm of the Law or with trepidation and despair as they see their world crumble around them? Saddam Hussein in his final hours was strong and courageous to the very end. Gaddafi was not. Already within Umno you see the start of it's fall into an abyss of self destruction that will take many many years for Umno to recover from ...if recovery is at all possible. Maybe from the ashes of Umno will rise other Malays who will understand the need to work with other Malaysians to make the Malays, Malaysia and other Malaysians strong again. Maybe not....but one way or the other...there will still be a Malaysia....maybe bankrupt, maybe a failed nation...maybe a Malaysia hopelessly embroiled in racial, religious and political conflict....but it will still be our Malaysia....and we will have to live with that Malaysia to the best of our ability or die trying.

A big divide between the two countries yet they live next to each other and both are Muslim countries.

Is this because there is a Mahathir (and an UMNO ) in one whereas there is none in the other?

I always tell my friend that Indonesia is not the best country in the world to work and live but since working in Indonesia for about 5 years, I don’t have the feeling that I am living in a Muslim country despite 93% of Indonesians are Muslim. 99.9% of my colleagues are Muslim and we go for lunch and dinner together and sometimes to a Chinese restaurant that served pork and there is no fuss about it. (For your information – the people who sell pork are Muslim – bosses are Chinese and employ Indonesian Muslim to cut and sell pork in the wet markets)

All 5-star hotels served pork bacon and ham for breakfast and are prepared by Muslim.

Alcohol is sold everywhere in the street… and Indonesia No 1 selling beer is “Bintang” and is brewed locally and is consumed by all Muslim openly. No issue….

During fasting month the Muslims are free to decide if they want to fast or eat as normal… no issue at all and no one catch them..

The president and vice president are elected by the people and so are the governors of the city (in Malaysia we call them Mentri Besar). No one is appointed by the President or in Malaysia by the PM.

National holidays – Hari Raya Idul Fitri is 2 days and Chinese New Year is 1 day but Christian enjoy 3 days – Christmas, Ascension of Christ and Good Friday. The Hindu in Bali has 1 day for Hari Raya Nyepi celebrated only in Bali . Wesak day is also a public holiday.

A Muslim can convert to a Christian tomorrow and then to a Buddhist the next day…and back to a Muslim. ….no issue at all.

In supermarket pork is sold side by side with chicken and beef….no issue at all…..

I can go on and on…….in short Indonesia is a very liberal Muslim country.. definitely not Malaysia . FYI our Malaysian senior government officer “suka Indonesia ”…you know why!!!

This writer is absolutely correct and gave a very fair view of Indonesia . I have been in and out of Indonesia for the past 10 years. Sometimes, my stay is up to one month per visit. I have worked with senior Indonesia managers as well as low level staff. I have also interacted with lots of direct sellers from all sorts of background. I have dealt with the Indonesian civil servants.

They don't talk about race. The mass media do not propagate racial or religious divides. They don't spin story of Christian fighting the Muslim or Muslim fighting the Christian. Husband and wife can have different religious belief. There is not such fuss as Halal restaurant. Tony Roma in Indonesia serves the best pork rib. In all the Tony Roma restaurants Muslim and non Muslim sit and eat together on one table. I ate pork rib, my Muslim colleagues ate beef and lamb. There is no such thing as a Halal and non Halal section.

Comparing the environment and the working culture in Indonesia between pre 1998 (Suharto's era) and the year 2008, you can see the vast improvement in Indonesia civil services.

During Suharto era, my visit to Tax office (Kantor Pajak) cannot be done without carrying cash for coffee money. The tax

officer will always start with " Pak dari Malaysia mahu chak kopi dulu". And this small favor money must be given and openly counted on his desk before any discussion.

My last visit in 2008 to the government office (Departmen Pentadbiran, you cannot use Jabatan Kerajaan. They hated the Raja), you cannot even mention anything about "Kopi". See the vast difference. SYB sent his own brother-in-law to jail. Suharto's youngest son, Tommy Suharto was jailed. Do you see this in Malaysia ?

Malaysia is rotting. And the writer is absolutely correct. If the situation is not changed, Malaysia will be the biggest exporter of maids to Indonesia , 10 years down the road. Padam muka orang orang kampong.

Muslims in Indonesia have no problem with patronizing outlets that sell alcohol or non-halal food, even if they choose not to have any. In Malaysia , the Muslims make a big fuss over small things which they claim are not halal. You may argue that there are fanatics here in Indonesia , but the number is small relative to the population. Just look around Malaysia . Everywhere you look, you get fanatics.

Hello media people, call Aeon, Tesco and Giant and check with them lah. If Giant is closing SIX more outlets this year, that is about 1000 workers being laid off.

The economy is shutting down. Especially at the street level. The people are suffering. Businesses are suffering. They are closing, people are becoming unemployed.

2. STUDENTS ALLOWANCES CUT 35%.

Recently, sad news from student from Institute Pendidikan Guru (IPG).

They just received long delayed allowance for Jan and Feb 2017.

Amount received very much reduced….. a cut of 35%.

Amount hardly enough if staying outside campus. Worse now…. only RM400++ how could they survive? Odd job… part time job…some may fall into vice.

My comments : In Kuala Lumpur, a 3 room apartment in the Kerinchi area rents for about RM1800. One room rents for RM600. Even if two students share one tiny room, that is RM300 for room rental alone. One breakfast costs minimum RM3.00. Lunch costs nothing less than RM5.00 (nasi putih with one lauk). Dinner will cost the same. Maggie Mee is about RM1 per packet. Can they eat Maggie Mee seven days a week?

3 HOSPITALS FACE SEVERE BUDGET CUTS.

“Encik Syed. Kawan saya HIV patient tak dapat blood test result last month sebab Hospital Sungai Buloh budget takde untuk buat blood test. This is getting to be real serious. People will die. If they cannot diagnose the cancer in three months, it could be too late to save the patient.

My comments : Most likely a crony contract, using sub standard materials. The building roof is falling apart. The sad thing is this problem has been going on for two years.

The Kementerian is just tai-chi-ing the problem to the JKR and vice versa. They dont have money. So the Kementerian does not want to pay and neither does the JKR want to foot the bill to repair the roof.
