Sabera Shaik....teaching the Orang Asli English.
With thanks to Shanghai Fish
WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2014
Another brick in the wall....
While most would like to laze and roll on the comfortable beds till late on a Sunday morning or wake up to go out shopping, one lady wakes up early, bakes or buys a cake and packs some soft drinks and heads East from the city, to the hills of Janda Baik to an Orang Asli settlement to teach English to a small group of school going kids of various ages.
I had the privilege to witness her in "action" last Sunday as "teacher" Sabera Shaik, a renowned stage actress and a Puan Sri to boot too, taught English to eager kids and their thirst for knowledge in communication. A language which has been given little prominence by the government of the day and a language that has been forsaken by many in Malaysia due to the empty nationalistic pride portrayed by moronic politicians on both sides of the divide.
It was indeed a warm sight to see the many eager hands shooting up to every question teacher Sabera asked of her young charges, most who did not know the answer but attempted anyway as she rewarded them with prizes of English reading books and pens to those who might give the correct answer.
People like Sabera know the importance of the internationally used English language and her tireless efforts to reach out, educated and equip these real "children-of-the-soil" with the all important tool in communication is highly commendable.
This genuine vocation to spend precious time with the less fortunate by one so rich and famous sure has my admiration as a person.
And that is Sabera Shaik.
Read more about this splendid lady here.
The class of Orang Asal children in attendance, with Sabera's companion Cecilia seated left on a low chair, in white.

Aisehman...give Najib a break lah!
steadyaku47 comment:
There may be some of you that questions the need of that space between Najib and the next person praying beside him...I can only speak from personal experience.. No not as a Prime Minister...jauh sekali...but as some one who needs that space between me and the next guy praying beside me.
I have never been a regular prayer guy...even Friday prayers are rare occurrences when I was in KL...so when I pray it is physical exercises that requires an effort - especially when I 'sujud' and and then rise to a sitting position...if I do not have enough space between the guy next to me, I will create physical havoc on his feet or toes.
Maybe Najib has the same problem...not too much practise and he is generously proportioned...and those next to him do not want to get crush in the process...so wisely they give him room.
And please do not pass judgement on me because of what I do or do not do....I am already 67 .....let them deal with me when my time comes...whether it is heaven or hell.
Face the Qiblah (toward Mecca), and make sure you’re in a clean area, now you are about to start one of the following prayers: 1stprayer (Subh), 2nd prayer (Dhuhr), 3rd (Asr), 4th (Maghrib), 5th (Ishaa).

Standing, you will start the prayer raising both hands up close to your ears and say "Allahu Akbar" (God is Most Great). (Look at the picture on the side).

Then put one hand on the top of the other hand between your chest and upper stomach, and start reciting surat “al fatiha”, say “ameen” once you finish it, and then start reciting another small surat (check here to find out more about “al fatiha” and the other “surats”).

Once you finish reciting raise your hands up to the ears, saying "Allahu Akbar." Bow (your hands on your knees, back straight, your face toward the ground, saying three times, "Subhana rabbiyal adheem" (Glory be to my Lord Almighty). This position is called (ruku’). See photo.

Rise back to standing while saying "Sami’a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd" (God hears those who call upon Him; Our Lord, praise be to You).

Raise hands up, saying "Allahu Akbar" then descend to the ground (see photo), while your face on the ground say three times "Subhana Rabbiyal A'ala" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High). This position is called “sujud”

Rise to a sitting position (see picture), saying "Allahu Akbar."

Then prostrate back on the ground (this is the second time you do it), while your face on the ground say three times "Subhana Rabbiyal A'ala"

Accidents too can be be made into a racial incident?
As a Warga Mas myself...Kudos to the old man for upholding the good name of other Warga Mas.
Now everything that happens to us can be made into a "racial " thing.
Many of you are looking at the incident as being one where an old Chinese man had an accident with a young Muslim women wearing a tudung....and the Malay girl thinks that she can get sympathy from others around her by playing up the race angle.,,,and if the accident happened during Ramadan there will be enough people out there questioning if Ramadan does any good if there are Muslim girls behaving this way...and the list goes on.
Why don't we all see if for what it really is....a minor accident between an over excited young lady and a cool old man who has seen enough of life to know how to handle the situation.
I am sure after all is said and done the two of them will get together. The girl will apologize for losing her cool and the old man, if he is at fault, will pay for the damage. Habis cerita.
P.S...and please stop these kind of posting ...because it does not help anybody...least of all your father:..if that really was your father that was involved in the accident.
And for those who do want to add their 5 cents worth to this incident I suggest you think before you post...as the comment below can be construed to be of the sexual kind....
Some people are just plain stupid. Especially bila rasa dia da diatas. For you #CCM25 girl. You'll regret it later.

There he goes again thinking he is God's gift to Islam and to the Rakyat in Selangor......this is the same Idris guy who is screwing around outside the bonds of marriage - strictly a no-no in the Islam he is ketua of. Idris if what Khalid is doing show that he is "sikap biadap" then what about what you are doing and have been doing all these years? Where does Islam allows you to fornicate outside marriage?
And what about that son of yours? Does not what he does outside Selangor - in London to be exact - within the bonds of Islam? How the fuck can you even think that you are the Ketua of Islam in Selangor when you cannot even teach your own son how to behave like a good Muslim should...and this is the son who is going to be the next Ketua of Islam in Selangor!
And what has MAIS been doing in Selangor? MAIS thinks that seizing Bibles containing the word "ALLAH" is its duty to Islam...woi Mat Adzib Isa( Chairman of MAIS) why do you not go put your MAIS house in order first...go see if your Ketua...that Idris guy...deserves to be your Ketua....and once you have put your house in order you better listen to what the people who pay your salary wants you to do.

Rosmah's ex-confidante Deepak owes Bank Rakyat RM215 million not RM32 million...
With thanks to Tumpang Sekole
- harakahdaily
PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar claimed today that Deepak has failed to settle all three of the loans in question, leading to a settlement agreement with the bank.
“This raises even more questions about the special treatment that the bank has given to Deepak as the outstanding amount is even bigger at RM215 million,” Mahfuz said, basing it on his own research.
Mahfuz was speaking to reporters after handing over a memorandum demanding answers and transparency from Bank Rakyat over the Deepak loans at the bank’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Mahfuz pointed out while the RM32 million outstanding loan was under the name of Deepak-owned Carpet Tile Sdn Bhd, another RM198 million was given to Radiant Splendour Sdn Bhd, a property developer company linked to Deepak, and another RM40 million was personally given to Deepak.
The outstanding amount from the three loans have been restructured by the bank for an amount of RM215 million, Mahfuz said.
“What is the next step that Bank Rakyat is taking to recollect all the outstanding debts for these three loans?” Mahfuz asked in his three-page memorandum to the bank.
The memorandum was addressed to the bank's managing director Mustafha Abd Razak, and was collected on Mustafha's behalf by Saliman Zainal, the bank's marketing and communications division vice-president.
Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan had previously denied that the government ordered Bank Rakyat to sanction an interest-free RM40 million loan for Deepak.
The carpet trader has been long embroiled in controversy due to his close ties to prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor, and also his involvement in the affair involving Mongolian model Altantuya Sharriibu, who was subsequently murdered.Malaysiakini has made several attempts to contact Deepak for his response but has been unsuccessful.- mk

Rosmah's ex-confidante Deepak owes Bank Rakyat RM215 million not RM32 million...
Carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan’s loan with Bank Rakyat is not limited to a purported RM32 million loan that recently became a subject of controversy, but instead he has two more loans totalling RM215 million.
PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar claimed today that Deepak has failed to settle all three of the loans in question, leading to a settlement agreement with the bank.

cakap cakap...when I close my front door, nothing disturbs me.
Early Sunday morning…the air outside is cool and crisp…Fitzroy, where I am now, is stirring…the Trams are already ferrying people here and there…cars are quietly respectful of this day of rest….and all is quiet in our apartment….my son in his room and my wife still asleep in our bed beside me.
My sleep has been somewhat troubled thinking of the killings going on in Gaza….man inhumanities against each other knows no bound….we have seen it all before and yet we are troubled. We are our brother keepers and when our brother suffer so do we. I made myself view the atrocities committed by soldiers of Israel upon the Palestinians children and women and it is all I could do not to cry. I also question the rationality of Palestinians fighting against overwhelming odds….but as you and I know, for evil to triumph all it takes is for good men to do nothing....and so the Palestinians fight!
I am fortunate. When I close my front door nothing disturbs me. The only connection to the outside world is the intercom…a mechanical device that I have full control over
I can dismiss any interruptions from the intercom if I so desire…and my land line and mobile I can set to mute. I power my PC on or off as I please. And today, like most of my days, are days to do as I please, go where I please and make of it what I please.
I can dismiss any interruptions from the intercom if I so desire…and my land line and mobile I can set to mute. I power my PC on or off as I please. And today, like most of my days, are days to do as I please, go where I please and make of it what I please.
At 67 this is how I have imagined my life to be from the time I could think. I want to be with the people I love, have enough of everything that I need to keep body and soul together and I want to live life in splendid isolation from everything else but that which I will allow into my life.
And yet I am troubled by what is happening in Gaza and elsewhere. The political situation in Malaysia is worrying and more often than I wish for, I think of my daughter and her family in Canada, over 16,000 kms away....especially my grand daughters Isabel and Sofie.
My Mac speed is slow because it does not have enough Memory and when I have too many windows open, it slows everything down and makes me irritable. My dryer stopped working yesterday and I still have not decided what we will have for lunch…though I have got lamb, fish and a frozen Apricot Chicken dish defrosting in the fridge….so I do have issues but all manageable and all self inflicted because what is life without a little strife.
And as physically isolated as I am in my own comfort zone, I allow my mind to wander wherever it wants to go. I know this week it wants to be in Gaza. I do not pretend to understand what the Palestinians are going through nor will I understand what drives them to go against the overwhelming might of Israel….but to see powerful nations do nothing to stop the carnage and murder of women, children and old men is proof positive that politics not humanity, rules the world.
I can close my front door and be away from such crass self-serving so called world leaders and their self preservation antics…but my mind still can wander and ponder the ramification of a world where the innocents bear the brunt of a world gone mad with race, religion and the mantra of what I want rather than what I need!
Such is life for me this Sunday morning....and I have still to have breakfast!
