Who Could Believe MCA’S Promise To ‘Safeguard Moderation’ When It Can’t Even Speak Up On 1MDB

Dennis Ignatius, a graduate in international relations from the University of Malaya, has served in London, Beijing and Washington. From 2001 to 2008 he was the ambassador for Malaysia to Canada. Below is an article from him :

April 27, 2018

It never ceases to amaze me why a party which has done so little for so long suddenly expects voters to believe that it can accomplish great things if given another chance. Political parties that seek re-election normally run on their record in office over the preceding years not on yet more promises.

Blasé and bankrupt

The MCA election manifesto of promises and initiatives that was released recently no doubt made many Malaysians shake their heads in disbelief; if that’s the best that the MCA can come up with even as it fights for its very survival politically, then they deserve to be obliterated in the upcoming elections without so much as a second thought.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to discuss all ten of their promises. Most – like those dealing with higher education, the digital economy, healthcare, women and youth empowerment – are simply regurgitations of past plans and initiatives that the government never got around to seriously implementing. They don’t need to promise to do such things, not after they have been in power for decades; they should have just done it.

Three of the manifestos promises, however, deserve special attention, if only because they reveal the utter vacuity of the MCA as a political party.

Safeguarding moderation

Take the promise of “safeguarding moderation” [promise #1]. Everybody knows that the MCA is but a junior partner in a coalition that manipulates racial and religious extremism to stay in power. Year after year, UMNO general assemblies have been little less than a hatefest spewing forth  unadulterated racism, mostly aimed at Malaysian Chinese. Where was the MCA  year after year when all this was going on?

There’s no point arguing that the MCA has less influence today due to lack of support from Malaysian Chinese because even when the MCA was at the height of its influence, it did little to mitigate UMNO’s racism. We are where we are today because of the failure of parties like the MCA, Gerakan and MIC to stand up for principle and to defend the legitimate interests of minority ethnic and faith communities from the depredations of UMNO.

To promise, at this stage, to safeguard moderation, after failing to do so for years, can only be  empty bombast. It’s a promise that the MCA leadership cannot keep even if they won all the seats they contest in the upcoming elections.

Defending core national institutions

The MCA also promises to “defend our core national institutions, uphold the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara… and ensure checks and balances”  [promise #2].

Again, why would they expect anyone to believe that they are sincerely committed to and able to fulfil such a promise when they have in fact been instrumental in undermining our constitution, diminishing our democracy and weakening the integrity of our national institutions?

Do they think that Malaysians will not remember that the MCA (together with Gerakan and MIC) voted, supported and defended every single piece of anti-democratic legislation, including the fake news bill, that was rammed through parliament? They couldn’t even bring themselves to support the thousands of Malaysians who took part in the BERSIH rallies demanding for free and fair elections.

Even now, the government of which they are a part of, is involved in a series of moves via the Election Commission and the Registrar of Societies to deprive citizens of a free and fair vote in the upcoming elections. The opposition is being hamstrung at every turn; electoral districts have been blatantly gerrymandered and malapportioned and even electoral rolls have been tampered with.

What is the MCA’s position on these shameful and undemocratic moves by government agencies which are supposed to be impartial? If they can’t or won’t speak up in the face of such egregious assaults on the integrity of the electoral process, how can we expect them to defend our constitution or our core institutions?

With their pathetic record in office, they have simply no credibility to even talk about defending our national institutions or upholding the constitution.

Harnessing Belt and Road Initiative

The election manifesto also makes much about harnessing China’s belt and road initiative [promise #6].

No one will, of course, disagree with this, especially given that China is an important economic partner and neighbour. What Malaysians are concerned about, however, is the utter lack of transparency when it comes to many of the big China-related projects. As the MCA well knows, Malaysia has a long and sordid history of corruption involving public projects; millions of taxpayer money has been lost as a result. Vigilance and transparency is not an option but a necessity.

What people want  and demand from the government is a commitment to transparency and integrity when it comes to mega projects, whether from China or elsewhere.  The government must do what other democratic governments do: make its case with facts, feasibility studies and data so that taxpayers are assured that they are getting value for money and that public funds are not looted or misspent. Secret negotiations done in the shadows with cronies and then kept from public scrutiny don’t inspire confidence and cannot be accepted.

Malaysians also want to be assured that all public infrastructure projects, again whether from China or elsewhere, prioritises Malaysia’s national interests, Malaysian companies, Malaysian engineering and technical expertise, Malaysian products and Malaysian  labour. As it is, too many concessions are given to foreign companies at the expense of Malaysians.

What Malaysians want

It certainly looks like the MCA, instead of trying to understand the sentiments of Malaysians and the angst and anger that animates our citizens these days, chose to rely on some slick strategist to come up with a seemingly smart manifesto that looks good on paper. What it reveals is that MCA (as well as its partners in BN) are hopelessly out of touch with the hopes and aspirations of ordinary Malaysians. If they were, they would at least start by being contrite about their dismal performance in office after decades in power.

Besides, the MCA [as well as Gerakan and MIC] made a choice a long time ago to meekly go along with a racist political partner perpetuating a divisive and exploitative political system; it cannot now pretend to be an independent political actor able to espouse and pursue an agenda of its own. The only agenda that is on the BN table is the UMNO agenda and that has already been rejected by a clear majority of Malaysians.

Malaysians are not too hard to please; what they want is for their constitution to be respected, their  democracy to be cherished, their leaders to be honest and sincere and their government to be clean. If the MCA and BN still doesn’t get that, they don’t deserve another term in office.

Bila anak Minister Melayu ada duit...dia beli Hummer. Bila anak Minister Cina ada duit...dia beli apa?

Last month, a young Malaysian (through his company Beulah International) paid A$101 million to buy over the BMW Southbank site of 6,191 sqm & in the process set a Melbourne record. And guess who is this young man? No other than the son of Mr Chan Kong Choy! Can anyone pls explain how a former Minister can accumulate such a fortune to buy that property??? According to Wikipedia d Malaysian PM’s salary is only RM22,826 pm!

BMW’s landmark Southbank site has sold for more than $100 million in the biggest central Melbourne property deal of the year.
Developer Beulah International has forked out $101,008,888 for the prominent 6191sq m corner property at 58 Southbank Blvd.
Beulah International principal Jiaheng Chen said the developer’s vision for the site was “a groundbreaking concept not seen before in Australia.”
“What attracted us to the BMW site was simple. It provides an opportunity to create a landmark development that will potentially comprise of retail, hotel, residential, commercial and public space that is of a world class standard,” he said.
BMW Australia chief executive Marc-Henrich Werner said the luxury car manufacturer was excited to showcase its latest technologies at the ongoing showroom.

CBRE national director Mark Wizel said BMW had “placed a high degree of emphasis on who they would be partnering with on the future development” of its home of more than 20 years.
“While many different buyers had more straightforward visions for the site, we have chosen Beulah due to their proven capabilities and commitment to innovation and exemplary design, values which closely align with that of BMW,” he said.
More than 20 offers were received for the site, for which architecture juggernauts Fender Katsalidis have designed a plan comprising dual buildings with more than 800 apartments, 600 hotel rooms and 10,000sq m of retail space joined by a sky bridge.
CBRE director Josh Rutman said: “interest was received from a range of developers with existing active projects in Melbourne, in addition to several offers from new market entrants with links to mainland China.”
The sale price was the highest in the CBD for 2017 and follows Malaysian developer SP Setia’s purchase of the 4000sq m old Telstra site in Exhibition St for $101 million.

THE TRUE COLORS OF MCA : We Chinese will finish them off just like the People of Penang finished Gerakan in 2008.

BY : Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew

SOMEONE hides behind an anonymous name (Lovely Jin) accusing me of misleading the public about the 'great' history of MCA.
The writer shows a serious lack of knowledge and understanding of the role of MCA in the
pre-Independence era.

Not only MCA was a political tool of the British colonial power, other Alliance parties like Umno and MIC were also political tools of the British.
The British made use of MCA, Umno and MIC to fight the Malay Left and Malayan Communist Party in order to protect its economic interests in the then Malaya.
Your browser may not support display of this image.
The million-dollar lottery owned and operated by MCA in the pre-Independence era was granted specially by the British colonial 'master'.
All winners of lottery must join MCA as a member.
As a deal, MCA must spend some of the profits from running the lottery on the Chinese living in the new villages (under the Briggs' plan).
MCA lost the lottery concession shortly after Merdeka under the pressure of Umno.
It was replaced by the state-run Welfare Lottery for some years before the former PM Tun Dr Mahathir given the exclusive right away to businessman Ananda Krishnan.
Ananda changed the name of the lottery to 'Big Sweeps'.
The Chinese were confined to various Chinese New Villages under the Briggs' plan to curb the influence of the MCP.
MCA was then granted a license to run the Million Dollar lottery by the British authority to make easy money from the Chinese community.
As a deal, MCA must use part of the profit to win the hearts of the Chinese in the new villagers.
This strategy worked well to serve the interest of the British master during the pre-Independence days.
When the time came to give Independence to Malaya , the British kept its promise by working only with Umno, MCA and MIC.
On the other hand, the real independence fighters including some prominent Malay Left leaders were arrested and locked up in prisons.
And the war against the MCP continued with greater intensity.
But true leader like Tan Cheng Lock was sidelined by other MCA and Umno leaders in the run up to the Independence negotiations.
Tan Cheng Lock has promised the Chinese community to present the General Demands of the Chinese Community to the British.
When his intention was known, he was barred from attending the final round of talks in London .
The MCA was instead represented by traitors like H.S. Lee and Tahir Tan Tong Hai.
According to the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (in one of his writings), Tan Tong Hai threw the entire General Demands document into a waste paper basket in the London hotel room instead of bringing it up to the negotiation table!
That's the reason why I often tell the young people that the betrayal of MCA could be traced back to its inception.
As a result of this unforgivable sell-out, Malaysian Chinese were treated like second class citizens in our land.
The Chinese were now stuck with the 'Non-Bumiputra' label thanks to MCA.
It was people like Leong Yew Koh who instigated Tunku to strip the citizenship and teaching license of the foremost Chinese education pioneer Lim Lian Geok.
Check with Cikgu Loot Ting Yee.
He is one of the mother tongue education pioneers who could testify my story.
The entire history of MCA is filled with betrayals, crimes and sins.
They have failed to preserve and protect the interest and rights of the Chinese community which they have claimed to represent.
Take a closer look at these scandals; deposit-taking-cooperative scandals, Chang Min Thien Fund scandal, Aik Hua Holdings scandal, MCA JE Fund scandal... it's a never-ending list.
And guess what; most of the victims of these scandals were MCA members and supporters.
Mind you, it was MCA that instigated the closure of the original Bai Xiao (SJKC Damansara) in Petaling Jaya.
It was also the efforts of SOS Damansara Action Committee and the pressure mounted by DAP, Dong Jiao Zong and the entire Chinese community that brought about the unprecedented speedy construction of the new SJKC Damansara in Tropicana.
It's a great shame that MCA leaders do not even bother to get accreditation for the certificates, diplomas and degree courses offered by TAR College .
Recently, a young Malaysian Chinese boy's application was rejected by the PDRM simply because the academic qualifications he obtained from the MCA sponsored TARC were not recognized by both Public Service Department and National Accreditation Board.
Under the current MCA leadership, the Chinese community can only request for a new Chinese primary school when one was 'dead'.
And all these years, the allocation of fund to the Chinese primary schools remains unfair and unjust; only about 2.4% of the total budget was given to the Chinese stream and about 1% given to the Tamil stream.
The rest was all given to the Malay (National) primary schools.
None of the MCA 'taikohs' (mainly Chinese educated) dare to make noise on this subject.
Yes, Lee Kuan Yew was not totally wrong.
The Umno-led BN government has been systematically marginalized the Chinese and other Non-Malay communities.
And what did MCA leaders like Ong Ka Ting and Chan Kong Choy do about it?
And why were they keeping so timidly quite when Umno ultras like Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin making all sorts of racist remarks and even waved the Malay keris time and again shamelessly?
MCA is indefensible.
That's why none of the MCA leaders dare to show up for the debate in Machap.
And for the same reason, none of them have the courage to rebut me on all those historical facts I raised in my book entitled, 'Coward? Culprit?
Accomplice? The role of MCA in the Chinese Community.'

My three children studied in Chinese Primary School and every year without fail, my wife and I were asked to donate towards upgrading of the school such as the increase of class rooms to accommodate more students (increase in non Chinese enrollment), adding tiles to toilets, building bigger canteens due to overcrowding, adding computers and whatnot.
We had been donating 6 straight years for our 3 children.
I am sure all other parents did too !!
What has MCA done for the Chinese beside acting in a 5* movie and singing birthday songs to Najib?
In a nut shell: WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS USELESS MCA?
THEY ARE BUT A BUNCH OF MUTUALLY CORRUPTED ASSHOLES !!
MCA do have a COLORLESS history.
All shits and no brains except wan ting to enrich themselves.
Yes, many of them becam¨¦ 'rich' overnight due to the contracts and negotiated tenders they got from those corrupted civil servants.
What happened to them now?
Most of them are dead now and some are almost dying or in wheelchairs.
These are the colors of MCA !
We Chinese will finish them off just like the People of Penang finished Gerakan in 2008.

Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Mohd Arshad Raji Raji : Tabek General!

steadyaku47 comment : The Communist against whom our parents had fought with through the Emergency years, are now no longer our enemies.  Through the greed and grace of najib razak, umno and mca, communist China are now poised to take our beloved country under their communist wings, lock stock and barrel.

For hundreds and thousand of Malaysian....make that millions of Malaysians... preoccupied with finding money to pay their house rent, to pay that car instalment or even securing their next meal for their children, this act by a Malay dominated umno government, with much enthusiastic assist from that politically bankrupt Chinese political entity, mca,  of opening wide our doors to Comminist China is of no concern. They have more pressing issues to address.

But not for many of us....

And none are now more vocal today than those Malaysians  Veterans who once served in the Armed Forces. And among those army veterans, one man stands out time and time again :

Mohd Arsahd Raji Raji.

Not Dato Arshad Raji Raji.

Not Brigadier General (rtd) Mohd Arshad Raji Raji.

He is all that and more, but to you and me, he is just Pak Arshad. That is all he will tell us of himself..and the fact that as an old soldier, he has taken as much as he could take of the manner in which this Malay dominated government is governing our country!

Pak Arshad has got the Army Veterans up in arms....literally up in arms ....in many other issues, but this tete a tete between umno, mca and communist China has become the rallying point for many many veterans who are now getting into line behind Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Arshad Raji Raji waiting for that call to arms from Pak Arshad to show this bn government what old soldiers are made off! I can assure you that it will not take much to militarise those old soldiers! For a start they are already back on the parade ground waiting for orders from Pak Arshad!

Tabek Pak Arshad......!!!

News Feed

Does UMNO wants its youth to be indoctrinated with communist ideology? Have UMNO not learnt our 40 years war with the Malayan Communist Party (PKM) that cost several hundred of our soldier's lives? You condemn DAP an even accuse the party as communist, but here you are.....UMNO sending its youth leaders to be alongside communist China's party youth leaders.

Seorang diplomat veteran menceritakan bagaimana duta besar China kini lebih intim dengan ahli politik Malaysia khususnya daripada MCA dan Umno.
FREEMALAYSIATODAY.COM

Read this and you can guess what will happen to our country ten years from today. I say, we will lose our sovereignty, and don't you know that some parcel of our country is already being sold to a foreign country. Yes, BN seems no longer interested in furthering the spirit of Malaysia, but furthering the spirit of China Malaysia. To UMNO, I say this......what are you furthering?

UMNO pimpinan Najib Razak kini mengkhianati para veteran, malah semua rakyat Malaysia, bukan saja dgn menggadaikan aset2 milik negara kpd negara China komunis malah kini merelakan para pemudanya diindoktrinasi fahaman komunis. Apa lagi yg akan di"komuniskan" oleh UMNO pimpinan Najib Razak?

ALREADY RM10 MILLION IN COMMISSION IN MELAKA ALONE

China's One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiatives promoting regional and cross-continental connectivity between China and Eurasia covering  five major areas of interest: policy coordination, infrastructure construction (including railways and highways), unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people ties, is driving their "investment" in Malaysia.

The first tidal wave of commissons /dedak/bribes (call it anything you like) from the influx of Chinese funds....now already about  RM150 billion (give or take a few billions) flowing into Malaysia has already found their ways into the pockets of Umno and MCA goons, their cronies, sahabats and other unsavoury characters that walks the corridors of powers in Putrajaya and worship the very ground that Najib and Rosmah traverse!

Yes I did say MCA goons...or should I say MCA pimps because MCA "special envoys" are sidelining the Malaysia Ambassador in Peking to do their own "kautim" with the powers that be in China for the financial advantage of the powers that be in MCA!

In Melaka alone RM80 billion plus RM12 billion in investment at one percent commission for introducer fees etc etc...has already seen RM10 million flow into the pockets of these Umno goons and MCA pimps!

Ini bukan kaching putih ma...this is cash into their pockets!

There is still Carey Island (projected USD100million) and Bagan Datok to come....no wonder Najib is still PM.....May ALLAH help our nation for UMNO will surely not!
