cakap cakap...I am conflicted but sure of where I stand!

Every day, in many ways the political divide widens. Anything that can divide Malaysians has been thrown at us. Anything that deepens and make that divide more permanent has been used over and over again until we grow tired of the rhetorics and the blame game and we tell ourselves that for our own peace of mind, we ourself must choose  - it is a zero sum game - one winner...and the winner takes it all.

For some the taking of sides is as easy as deciding from where one thinks the dedak will come from. And not to worry Najib and Umno...there are many this way inclined.

For the Malays, there are some weighty considerations to be considered. One's race and religion for starters and then there is the matter of King and country to be thought of - all I am sure, are matters to be seriously considered if one is not to be thought of as being a traitor to one's race, an infidel in one's religious beliefs and to being accused as a Malay who has forgotten that Malaysia is OUR country!

I do not know too well the thinking of the non-Malays, but suffice for me to say that they too are now between the devil and the deep blue sea. All the political entities that want's to serve them are suspect and you can see within them what you want to see and you can then justify your reason for your support or opposition to them with ease.

I have followed the political happenings in Malaysia much too closely to be not affected by these matters but even from this far away in Melbourne, far far away from the maddening crowd, I am conflicted.

I know too well the deeds and doings of Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim from their time in and out of public office. And of Najib from the time he was MB Pahang to the present day.

If truth be told these three are the reason politics in our country today is so much more about money then about good governance. What can be debated is the degree to which any one of them can be faulted for how money politics have been able to take hold of everything that politics touches.....no one can debate that any one of them are free from fault. And if you cast your eye over the whole spectrum of politics and politicians in Malaysia today, you will be hard pressed to find anyone that can throw the first stone....as in "Let those who is without sin, cast the first stone".

And yet we have to choose.

I do not believe in the eternal goodness of our fellow humans... especially politicians......but I believe it is possible for Mahathir and Anwar to understand what is needed to oust Najib from office and to put into Umno, the fear of God!

Time and time again, Mahathir and Anwar have made themselves politically relevant to the time they were in. None more so than today!

Last week the significance of that meeting between Mahathir and Anwar cannot be denied. It was that "wow" moment that our people and our nation needed to galvanized opposition against a billionaire prime minister and a rampaging Umno that thinks itself beyond censure or responsibility for what it has done and will continue to do to retain  government even after it has lost the popular mandate to govern. Now it remains to be seen if PPBM can bring together the ragged bunch of opposition political entities who are against Najib, Umno and BN, to form a coalition of sorts to fight BN for government, at the next election. Without a coalition that will include PPBM, DAP, PKR and Amanah, I would suggest that Mahathir and Anwar would have failed before they even begun.

There will be detractors and distractions a plenty and the fire power emitting from all sides will be deafening if not deadly. No prisoners will be taken.2017 will be an interesting year for all involved. An election year? Most probably! The demise of Najib and Umno? Do not bet your last ringgit on this but having said that, there is no doubt that Mahathir and Anwar will give Najib a good run for his billions.

I am inclined to cast my lot with Saudara Anwar and Mahathir but it is an inclination that is not without reservations. Trust but verify.

And for those of who are unsure as to where the dedak is coming from...follow the path that the IGP, the AG and the PAC Chairman takes....it will lead you to what you seek. Amen!
