Malcolm Fraser, former Australian prime minister, dies aged 84
The former Liberal leader, prime minister from 1975 to 1983, won
three elections but eventually left after becoming disillusioned with
party’s direction
Former Australian prime minister Malcolm Fraser has died at the age 84, after a brief illness.
Fraser’s death was confirmed in a short statement from his office on Friday.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you that after a brief
illness John Malcolm Fraser died peacefully in the early hours of the
morning of 20 March 2015,” the statement said.
“We appreciate that this will be a shock to all who knew and loved
him, but ask that the family be left in peace at this difficult time.”
