We all remember the assassination of Aquino. For me my immediate reaction was disbelief - disbelief because of the manner it was done and where it was done: on the tarmac of Manila International Airport.
But Aquino did not die in vain. His death was the catalyst that transformed the small isolated opposition to the rule of Marcos into a national crusade that culminated into the People Power Revolution which forced Marcos to flee Manila conceding the Presidency to Aquino's widow, Corazon Aquino.
We must remember that Aquino had to die before the people of that country rose as one to rid themselves of the corrupt Marcos. What will move the people of Malaysia to act against the corrupt leaders who are now plundering and pillaging our country?
I really do not know.
What I do know is that our people are ready for change. Our people are ripe for a revolution - by peaceful or violent means. Our people have had enough of being taken for fools by leaders who are themselves fools. The people are now waiting for their catalyst - they are impatiently waiting for their Aquino!
I pray that our revolution will be peaceful and will be through the ballot box. Anything else and we will all lose - lose not only our cohesiveness as a nation but more important we will lose our country to anarchy and chaos.
But this is of no concern to UMNO and Barisan Nasional. UMNO's concern is power and how to hold on to it. But remember my friends....we have the numbers! And our resolve for change is resolute! So change it will be by the ballot box or otherwise!
Yes we all pray that our revolution will be peaceful and thru the ballot box. But do we really have a choice? When all democratic channels are being abused and manipulated, revolution will happen thru violence. Even if it is a peaceful power transition, it is going to be a painful experience to recover from the damage of most of our institutions - economic, social, education, legal etc etc etc.
