Cakap cakap ....a taste of truth.

If we were to be asked “Who amongst you have been supporters of UMNO?”. Let me be the first to put my hand up. If we were again asked “Who amongst you have benefited from the policies implemented by the Barisan Government?” I will again be the first with my hand up.   And yet again if we were asked “Was it not UMNO that has done the most to help the Malays when compared to what any other Party Political Party has done in Malaysia?” Again I will raise my hand and say “Yes Tuan, UMNO has!”

Then they will ask of me why do I as a Malay now desert UMNO at the time of its greatest needs? My answer will be this – “Because UMNO did for itself more then what it did for the Malays!” Here lies the greatest tragedy of this once great party – the inability of its current leaders to see the writing on the wall that shouts to them that UMNO need to change to be relevant to the times it is now in. They have not learned from the willingness in 1951, of Dato Onn Jaafar to leave the Party that he helped found because UMNO was not prepared to open its membership to non-Malays.

Let us not forget that Malaysia formed in 1963 initially consisted of Sabah, Sararwak and Singapore. The expulsion of Singapore in 1965 was the direct result of an increasing racial divide that UMNO encouraged because it went foolhardly into the affairs of the Singapore State by championing the cause of the Singapore Malays.

The May 13 incident of 1969 again demonstrated the sensitivities of multi ethnic politics where solutions need to be found to effectively build a nation that can be united in diversity. This was not done.

They could see that from Dato Onn Jaafar’s time, through the race riots in Singapore in 1964, through the expulsion of Singapore from Malaysia in 1965, through the pain of May 13th in 1969……always it is the racial divide that has caused us all so much pain and sufferings. I still remember the sadness I saw in Tunku face after the May13th riots….and the grim look in Tun Razak’s face as he worked with Tun Ismail and the other Alliance leaders towards reconstructing our nation.

All this for what? For the UMNO that we have now? Huh! What will it take for UMNO to understand that this race issue will not go away with one race being dominant over the other. If UMNO has control over PDRM, over the Army, over the Judiciary over all the weaponary in Malaysia – their leaders will still not be able to sleep soundly nor their family be safe if the racial divide becomes an issue again.

It is now obvious to us that change will not come from within UMNO nor will it be initiated by its leaders. So we, the Rakyat have started the change with our votes at the last General Election. The only thing UMNO can do now is to change itself…if you do not then the only purpose of  UMNO being around after the next General Election is simply to serve as a warning to others what sort of a  Political Party NOT to be in a multi ethnic country like ours.

  1. To clinch the deal, we need an answer to Sabah and Sarawak , we cant do it alone in Peninsular.

The upcoming Sarawak state wide elections will show a lot of pointers.

  3. Do you honestly believe the current leaders will change UMNO?

    I don't.

UMNO has deteriorated to a point that it is now in urgent need of a transplant. It is now rotten to the core. UMNO now is not original. UMNO now is UMNO Baru. The founder is Dr Mahathir. Let it be written in our history books, so that our children gets to know the truth.

When he founded UMNO Baru, he set all sort of rules/restrictions, making it difficult for others to contest and challenge him in a democratic manner. You know....the bonus vote, quota etc. What he wants, he gets it no matter how much he now tried to deny. This is a fact. He remained unchallenged until he retired. The rot started when UMNO Baru was formed. And the rot has not stopped until today.

To change, UMNO needs a new set of leaders. From within UMNO, we need people like Tengku Razaleigh, Zaid Ibrahim (now he too has left), Shahrir Samad and maybe just another 4-5 acceptable ones in the current leadership at Federal and State level. All the others need to be replaced.

The only other alternative is PR. Give them the chance to show what they can do. Give them the chance to create some track record. If they can't deliver, we can throw them out in 4-5 years. UMNO has been telling the rakyat that the opposition has no track record. How on earth are they going to have the track record when they have never ruled the country?

Otherwise, it is business as usual for UMNO/BN. They will use whatever they have in their arsenal to cling to power - race, religion, royalty, media, PDRM, MACC, judiciary, ISA, OSA etc, etc.
Only the rakyat can change it not UMNO.

Sigh...there is so much potential for this beautiful country of ours...but what a waste it has been for the past 20 years.

  5. Yep !!! I'm the beneficiary of the NEP and that I owe it to UMNO that put those policy in place.

But I'm in no way going to support UMNO for now until they change for the better and for the society rather than the selfish and self-gain UMNO politicians.

I could not allow the blatant abuse of power by UMNO for corruption and hiding the wrong-doing of it's kind using the state apparatus.

Thank God for giving me the wisdom to see the wrong and the courage to think for change.

Perhaps, UMNO have outlived its purposes.

  6. Dear HH

....I am still trying to understand the politics of sabah and sarawak...

To be frank they too, disgusted with UMNO Sabah of cause with UMNO itself. They point out, earlier when they wanted to throw UMNO out of sabah (BN Gov) but Peninsular helped UMNO to stay on power...Now they say it is their turn to help UMNO/BN stay in power..so much hatred to Semenanjung People ( Orang Malaya)

And HH if you want good web to read about Blog to Sabah Kini..it is ahit now in Sabah.

    Adios

  7. Maybe the Malays benefited from UMNO's leadership, but at who's expense?

Look at the Penans in Sarawak. No school, no electricity, no roads, no clean water. Yet the Malaysians living in Peninsular Malaysia harp about how 'developed' and 'proud' they are of Malaysia with its Petronas Twin Towers and KLIA.

Yes, its time for the West Malaysians to learn their lesson. West Malaysians have been arrogantly lording over Malaysia and looting the riches of the country for themselves. Time for East Malaysians to teach West Malaysians a lesson. East Malaysians will vote for East Malaysian parties to spite those arrogant West Malaysians that have for years looked down on them from their high places in Putrajaya.

  9. Their hands are bloodied. Corruption, nepotism, cronyism, CTB, murder....you name it they've done it.
After all that you still hope that they'll change?
    Wishful thinking...

Heard of reformed conman? Even if they are, would you trust them with your money...?

After you rid of UMNO..guess what?
Every arms of governance are crawling with them..
We will need to fumigate the whole lot and start afresh if this country is to see a new dawn.
